  • Overview

    The USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter lets you connect your USB-C– or Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C)–enabled Mac to an HDMI display, while also connecting a standard USB device and a USB-C charging cable.

    This adapter allows you to mirror your Mac display to your HDMI-enabled TV or display in up to 1080p at 60Hz or UHD (3840x2160) at 30Hz. It also outputs video content like films and captured video. Simply connect the adapter to a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port on your Mac and then to your TV or projector via an HDMI cable (sold separately).

    Use the standard USB port to connect devices such as your flash drive or camera, or a USB cable for syncing and charging your iPhone, iPad or iPod. You can also connect a charging cable to the USB-C port to charge your Mac.

    Note: The Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter is not compatible with the G-Tech G-DRIVE mobile USB 3.0 Hard Drive (Apple part number HF4F2VC/A).

      Although it works fine it is bulky and the design ill considered, and rather more expensive than an Apple TV this rather essential item allows you to connect a Although it works fine it is bulky and the design ill considered, and rather more expensive than an Apple TV this rather essential item allows you to connect a USB 3 to your MacBook, but it's terribly bulky especially when you only want to connect a USB device for a few minutes to swap files. This slightly defeats the wonder of having such a slim package as the wonderful MacBook. Hopefully they will get around to doing a USB 3 stick to USB C sometime soon... meanwhile us early adopters feel foolish

      I bought this alongside my MacBook so that I could backup my Mac. I now discover that this adapter is not compatible with USB 3.0 drives. Disappointed that this isn't mentioned on the packaging, nor was the information volunteered when I bought it.

      I'm using this to connect a monitor, power and a Mac USB keyboard to my MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016). The adapter worked for almost a day, but then the I'm using this to connect a monitor, power and a Mac USB keyboard to my MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016). The adapter worked for almost a day, but then the keyboard stopped responding. Checking the adapter I found it was so hot I could not hold it. I unplugged it and found that the ports on the back are smelling of burnt plastic. Clearly there is something fishy with this product - judging from all the other negative reviews too. A very bad situation. This is the only way I can connect a monitor to my MacBook - it's the only port. If Apple cannot provide me with a working adapter then my MacBook becomes severely limited!

      This adapter is unfit to be sold. I have tried it with 5 different HDMI cable and monitor combinations (all of which work fine with every other device I have pl This adapter is unfit to be sold. I have tried it with 5 different HDMI cable and monitor combinations (all of which work fine with every other device I have plugged into them) and I cannot get it to work reliably. It works intermittently with one of my HDMI monitors until my macbook goes to sleep and then it won't work again until I reboot it and plug everything in in a certain order. It is an expensive piece of junk!

      Works for while...

      I have now bought a total of six of these things, one each with each new Macbook or MacBook Pro I've been buying for staff. The results have been consistent. They work (usually for a few weeks) and then they stop working - and it's almost always the USB-C connector to the external screen that stops working. Oddly, it only stops working for that purpose- it's still works for power. I've also regularly taken the adaptor back to my local Apple store - where they replace them without fuss - only for the same thing to happen with the new ones. It's very frustrating as these adaptors are essential with the MacBook - which only has the one port.

      Very strange product

      I have this and the other multi-port adaptor and could not get the USB-C port to act as a feed-through on either, so if I connected (say) my monitor to the USB- I have this and the other multi-port adaptor and could not get the USB-C port to act as a feed-through on either, so if I connected (say) my monitor to the USB-C port, it did not work. However, it works the other way around - the power supply will feed through to my MacBook Pro. So this USB-C port is one-way only, not two-way. Very strange concept and not explained anywhere.
