Still a step back from the old Smart Cases however because it lacks any protection for the side, does not have the Apple logo on the back and is not available in leather. For an iPad of this quality and expense, a silicone folio may suffice but a leather one is desirable.

To protect it I opted for the full leather case. This Was around £65 and although expensive at the time was full soft grain leather front and back. Protected the sides and the hinge was also leather so very durable. Five years on and it has protected my investment incredibly well and still looks like new. Today I bought the new IPad Pro and wanted to offer it the same level of protection. The closest case Apple do is now £85 for a plastic case, with a plastic hinge and no side protection. The quality is worse, protection worse and I would suggest it’s longevity worse, however it cost £20 more than the full leather case of the past. Apple Why?

      Slim, smart case

You might be like me and wanting to protect the screen and back from scratches, but don't want to ruin the appearance or feel of the device? If so, this is the case for you. Protect the front and back, keep the device super-slim, and have a built-in stand for when you need it. It can be tricky to decide between this and the keyboard version. For the sofa iPad users who don't input much more than a few words at a time, the slim fit of this case far outweighs the physical keyboard. Highly recommended!

After 9 months, it is simply falling apart with the edges fraying and coming away from the backing. In other words, after 9 months it has worn out. If I had not bought it from the Apple Store I would question it as being a fake. There are identical 3rd party cases on Amazon for a fraction of the price. Sure they may wear out after 9 months but at least you would find yourself £90 out of pocket

I gave it a shot as almost everything Apple makes it great, assuming other reviewers were careless when it got dropped etc, however my less than two month old iPad Pro sailed out of it when I picked up normally, straight on to the tiled floor, no idea how.. bye iPad! Paid to replace the iPad as Apple take no liability and got a Dux Ducis case which is excellent.

Also, cheaper plasticky finish compared to the cases for the old iPad. I'd look for a third party one.
