Yes, it will work fine on an early 2009 iMac.
The system requirements are: "Bluetooth-enabled Mac computer with OS X v10.11 or later". So as long as you are running the latest compatible operating system (El Capitan in this case), you'll be fine. And I can confirm from direct experience that it works on an early 2009 MacBook Pro, which I was using with this mouse until recently.- Answered by Akim M from Victoria
