It really depends on what you do more. If you travel frequently for school and your internship then the Air may be for you. The Macbook Pro does have the better screen, so if media consumption is something that is important to you, consider the retina display. Both are quite light and compact, and both are powerful enough for daily tasks. The Air has two advantages: it is very small making travel much easier; it also has a much better battery, so if you are at work or school and won't be able to charge all day the air may be what you need. The Retina also has two advantages: it is much more powerful, so if you perform intense computations (editing, gaming, etc.) consider the retina; of course the other advantage is the screen,if you will do a lot of document reading the clearer screen may be more comfortable not to mention it looks gorgeous. The Retina is worth the $500 if you need the sharper screen and the extra power, to an average user however it probably wouldn't make a difference if all they do is make documents and browse the internet. The Air would probably be best for you since you are just using it for school and an internship, which means gaming and videography probably aren't high on your priorities, so the air will be just powerful enough. I hope this helps!

  • I have had my macbook pro for about 3 weeks now. I had the same question as you: pro or air? What made me get the pro was the beautiful screen. I already have the iPad with retina. So to go to a non-retina on a screen I'm going to be looking at all day at school, I wanted something easy on the eyes. Yes it doesn't have the same battery life. But I can do a full day of class on it. How hard it is to plug it in while you're sleeping? And I wanted more memory. I'm planning on having this thing for the next 6 or 7 years and don't want to have to worry about it. Yes, you can get customize through Apple online. But I wanted to buy from Best buy specifically for their insurance.
