Will a Thunderbolt 2 chord work on a MAC Pro from 2009

AnswerNo, a thunderbolt cable will not work on a Mac Pro (2009). Should the graphics card have a socket that seems to fit a thunderbolt cable, the correct product to get is a Mini DisplayPort cable, not a thunderbolt cable.

How do I transfer data from my iMac without thunderbolt (only firewire) to my new Macbook Air with thunderbolt?
I upgraded from the Macbook Pro 2010 model to the new Macbook Air. I transfered the data from the Pro to my iMac via firewire. Now I need to transfer the same data from iMac to the new MBA with thunderbolt. Is there a cable that connects the firewire port on my iMac to the thunderbolt port on the new MBA?
Best Answer:If you are using transferring all of your data to the other Mac, the easiest and fastest way is to use 'Migration Assistant' with an ethernet cable as it can reach speeds of up to 2gb/s.

Can an airport express or apple tv connected to a tv be used as a display to remotely view a mac mini located in an different area of a home.
I would like to set up a mac mini in one area of my house but still be able to operate it sitting in front of a tv using airport express or apple tv in another location with a blue tooth keyboard and mouse.

AnswerYes. you can!
Here is how I would set it up:
1. Connect your Apple TV to your TV (AirPort Express will not work, since it's only a router with AirPlay AUDIO, not video)
2. On Mac Mini (or any AirPlay enabled Mac), go to System Preferences > Displays > CHECK "Show mirroring options..."
Now every time your Apple TV is turned on and make sure you set up everything in the SAME network and the AirPlay option is turned on, you will see the AirPlay logo on the menu bar. Connect to your Apple TV and select mirror display. You might wish to adjust the resolution and things if something doesn't look right (I can't really say more about that, you will have to figure it out then).
3. As long as your Bluetooth equipments are in range of your Mac, feel free to use it!
Good luck!- Answered by Cong W from San Francisco

Use iMac late 2009 as a second display connected to iMac late 2014
Not sure if possible, is it possible to use my iMac Late 2009 as a second display for the iMac late 2014 build.
The old iMac has a Mini display port and the new iMac has only thunderbolt connections?
I am confused after reading apples FAQ's
Appreciate any help, thank you

- Flag as inappropriate (Use iMac late 2009 as a second display connected to iMac late 2014)
Best Answer:Yes, the iMac late 2009 supports Target Display Mode (TDM)
Cable Supported: Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort
Port on Source Computer: Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt
Thunderbolt ports are backwards compatible, meaning they support MiniDisplay Port cables. Your iMac 2009 with MiniDisplay Port does not support Thunderbolt. So you will need a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable; this would then be plugged into Mini DisplayPort in 2009 iMac and Thunderbolt port on 2014 iMac.
Command F2 on the 2009 iMac would put this computer into TDM, with the 2014 iMac as the source computer.- Answered by Michael R from Golden

How many devices can be connected - simultaneously - to one thunderbolt port?
I work with video production but the budget is yet limited, so I can't afford a Mac Pro. But with an iMac I might be able to work just fine. But before I buy a mac I need to know if the thunderbolt can support multiple devices as in a hub. Could I plug two, three monitors, a pci express for playing hard videos, and also connect a Raid of Hard drives?

- Flag as inappropriate (How many devices can be connected - simultaneously - to one thunderbolt port?)
Best Answer:Thunderbolt is a point-to-point interface, that also allows daisy-chaining to up to seven devices. The new iMacs have other ports besides just Thunderbolt out their back, so in effect it already is a hub for these different port types. IF you want to chain via the Thunderbolt port, you need to make sure each device connected to your iMac has two Thunderbolt ports, one for its "upstream" Thunderbolt partner and one for its "downstream" device chain. Be careful, though, for not all Thunderbolt devices have this second port, so they have to be wired into your string as the last/end-point

Best Answer:
Apple announced there would be a Thundebolt to Firewire adaptor coming soon. Until that arrives, you may wish to consider other options as follows.
If you have access to the underlying 2.5" SATA I/II drive inside your current storage device, you may also be able to use the Seagate Thunderbolt adaptor for their GoFlex Pro series of external drives, was their adaptor can handle the 2.5" HDD directly- Answered by Thomas R from Cupertino

Is this cable backwards compatible with mini display port?
Meaning could I use it on my 2009 macbook pro as mini display port to mini display port or mini display port to thunderbolt. I was looking into getting one and if this can do both I would get this for whenever I upgrade my macbook pro. I dont think it is but just wanted to make sure.
