    Useful, neat, expensive

Pros: Fits neatly upon foot of 27” iMac; Power adapter silent; *Comes boxed with (short) Thunderbird cable*; gives USB3 charging current at all times (so long as power supply plugged in); nicely made.

Meh: only one USB3 front socket (other two at rear).

Minus: Expensive - but a price you have to pay to obtain USB3 on a Thunderbird 1 iMac or Macbook (ie pre-2012j

    Intermitent external monitor use

When i connect Elgato with an external monitor on my MacBook Air, the screen flickers between internal screen only and internal screen + external monitor, BUT doesn't activate the external monitor, repeating the process.

The only way to connect it is with luck, and praying (and some reboots in between).

This problem looks to be driven by the fact that Elgato is "declaring" the monitor present, even it it is turned off, confusing Apple drivers and making the external screen activation very tricky.

What a Joke of an item

I bought this to enable me to connect 2 monitors to my MB Air, This you can not do, firstly one of the thunderbolt connections needs to be used to connect to you computer and secondly you can not mix HDMI and Thunderbolt. I am fuming that this is not mentioned in the spec, only found out when i went to the Elgator website

    Multiple Monitors

Using two of these lets you connect multiple monitors (as well as other peripherals) to the single thunderbolt port on a Mac book air.

    Gigabit Ethernet Intermittent

The big selling point for this item is that you only have to connect one cable to "dock". However, the gigabit ethernet port would very rarely re-connect. Sometimes "re-docking" would work, other times I would have to fumble round the back of the dock and remove & reconnect the ethernet cable.

Although a nice little package, the poor functionality from the Gigabit Ethernet port is a let down.
