    Awful

    • Written by Nath F from STRATFORD-UPON-AVON

Bought this as my old original T-shape maglock charger for my macbook stopped working.

Have had it a total of maybe, 2-3 weeks and if I want to charge my laptop the cable has to be put into a very specific position.

Also the metal head that connects to your macbook gets very hot and can burn you.

I will be requesting a replacement and would hope that apple would stop using cheap materials and over charging because of their brand.

    Yet more innovation from Apple

    • Written by Tom W from St Albans

Apple have done it again! The "L" shaped adaptor heads mean that you can have the wires running away from you rather than out from the side.

They also look much better than the "T" shaped adaptor heads due to the aluminium finish.

Would very much recommend if you need a new charger!

    Broken and burns

    • Written by anthony W from middlesbrough

I bought this charger probably about 2 or 3 months ago to replace my old one which was the last version the white T shaped one which worked fine without problem until then and was about 3 years old.
The past week or 2 it has slowly started to stop working properly going off when I move it the tinniest amount and then takes a while to get back working again, this is what happened to my old charger before it broke. Now today I felt the head of the charger and the temperature was ridiculous I physically cant hold it in my hand for longer than 4 seconds without being burned! Im worried that it may set on fire if it keeps getting worse. Im going to get in contact with apple to see if they can replace it or something for me. Iv noticed im not the only one as somebody else has posted the same thing as me.

    Garbage

    • Written by Ben S from Nantwich

I brought this from a Mac retailer and within one day it stopped working at random intervals and was a complete mission to start working again!

I never had a single problem with my T shaped charger and if the dog hadn't have chewed through it i certainly wouldn't have brought this product!

i hope these chargers aren't standard with the new Mac laptops!!

    not good at all

    • Written by Tim R from Warwick

check out the US websites reviews before purchasing one of these. I have to remove the battery on my 2008 MacBook just to make this charger work.
I need a reliable charger, and this is not it.
It's going back to the shop tomorrow, hopefully for a refund

I really did expect more from apple. I had to spend 2 hours to get it to work, and then to find out that if I disconnected my laptop, it would shut down. Never should have bought this product, waste of money

    Magsafe woes

    • Written by A. N from Edinburgh

I bought a L-shape Magsafe adaptor in March 2010 to replace my second burned-out T-shape adaptor and guess what, it dies in September 2010 - 6 months lifetime! OK the first was replaced under the warranty covering my MacBook but the third L-shaped one is only covered by a 90 DAY WARRANTY, so beware. I was told by Apple Support that it may be a fault with my MacBook and to have it checked out but having read other reviews it seems that there is a problem with the quality of the adapter, The guy at support agreed it was ridiculous that these adapters are only supplied with such a limited 90 day warranty but I am still left having to buy another. At this rate, it could cost around about £90 a year for adapters!

Dear Apple, sort your life out.

    • Written by Susan B from Barnstaple

Dear Apple, I have had this charger for a whopping total of 23 hours. The time it actually worked was less than half of this. Yes, that's right. I managed to use this charger ONCE. I try to use it again, and it does not work, therefore not performing it's Primary function, which is to CHARGE a MacBook. Now, have I just paid 50 pounds for a charger? Or something that is identical to charger in looks, but performs about as well as the equivalent size and weight in fecal matter. Actually I think the feces would do a better Job. So, basically what I'm trying to say, Apple, is that I spend 600+ pounds on a Laptop (in which one of it's accessories/necessities cannot be replaced) and you can't even make a reasonably priced charger that actually works, as a replacement. I suggest you make a charger that actually works, in future, and definitely one that supports older generations of MacBook, else someone at Apple will be receiving a Stone Cold Stunner, (I'm not gonna say who, or when for that matter) from Yours Truly. Thank You and Goodnight.

Not as bad as they say.

    • Written by Pawel S from London

I bought this new charger after having accidentally broken my old T-shaped charger with worry in my mind based on the "overheating" reviews found here.

I can safely say that those reviews are scaremongering. The charger works without an issue, the MagSafe head does NOT overheat or burn you if it's touched. Cable management is far superior to the T-shaped MagSafe, plus you get a year warranty and peace of mind that the charger won't set fire to your house like some knock-off no-brand MagSafe's.

Absurdly expensive for what it is, doubly so when it burns out so quickly. I bought mine abroad, was back-packing, have mislaid the receipt and doubt Apple will replace it. Will delete this review if they do.

    • Written by N.V. P from BODMIN

I replaced my t style old power cable with this after squashing the old one in a door...read the reviews and felt worried as so many comments said it doesn't work. Why was I worried? Opened the box, plugged it in, charged the laptop. Thanks Apple- it is expensive but if I used a PC I would have spent this much just on virus protection this year...

It works now but I would have appreciated a big red arrow pointing me in the direction of the firmware update required for an older MacBook before I spent ages feeling like a dumb blonde when I couldn't get it to work.

    works but comes apart

    • Written by Jonathan S from Cheltenham

cable comes apart at the power block in the middle, never wrap the cable around the provided hooks, it bends the cable form the block to your mac at a stupid degree, and frays it. still works, but risk of electrocution/burns :(

    Bad

    • Written by Bo T from Copenhagen N.

Apple chargers (and Apple cables in general) are unfortunately of such a bad quality that it's laughable - and this charger is of no exception. And are priced so high that it is an insult. Unfortunately you don't have any other choice when you use the rest of their hardware (which is great). Either they break where the wire meets the plug (as in their USB and such cables) or they break where the cable meets the adaptor (as in their power adaptors). Even when you use the well know "loop the cable beforehand if you intend to wind the cable up on the 2 hooks" technique they break (yes. The to hooks strain the cable even more if you actually just use them the way you would THINK that they should work - what "intuitive design").
I'm working through my THIRD adaptor in three years.
    Thank you Apple....not

Don't believe the (lack of) hype!

    • Written by Daniel C from Ilford

I don't know what the other reviewers are on about?

Bought this as a replacement for my old T-shaped magsafe.

I'm using an old style 13" white macbook, running Leopard with the most recent firmware upgrade.

I've had absolutely no issue with the charger, and the metal connector does not get hot as many people have been saying!

As far as I'm concerned, it does exactly what it says on the tin.
