Such a shame everyone is having the same problem! Original charger lasted four years, finishing up with sparking and smoking and with both ends of the charger overheating. I decided to buy a cheaper version from Amazon to replace it, and this has just expired in the same way. I was preparing to fork over £60 for a new Apple one this time round, only to see they have increased in price by £19 since last September!! And with people still experiencing exactly the same problem! Such a joke.

    Rotten Apple

    • Written by Obah I from London

Why are we still buying from these people. We have 3 apple product in our home ipad,iPhone and MacBook all have charger issues. It can't be a fluke. It's ridiculous that these people do not see anything wrong with their products. But then it's our fault because they didn't force us to buy. APPLE BEFORE YOU RELEASE THE NEXT PRODUCT WHY NOT TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR CABLES. I'm committed to boycotting you until you fix the problem or give free replacement cables. You owe us that much. CHEAPSKATES! USELESS BRAND

    Frays and overheats

    • Written by Andrea M from Bothwell

This is my second charger in 4 years. They are utter pants! I have to keep a ice pack on top of charger to stop over heating. Both chargers frayed at box end. I rarely use it. Was told by shop assistant I was winding it up wrong! Nice try! Can't even rate it! Don't want to give it one star.

Doesn't anyone from Apple read these reviews? ?

    • Written by Isla G from Bishops Sutton

My Macbook power adapter is fraying and the plastic is splitting (has been held together with tape for 18 months) so I was interested to see whether other people had had the same problem, especially as I'm going to have to replace it with the newer style. I couldn't believe what I found - there are 16 pages dating from 2010 to Sept 2016 where people have constantly complained about the quality of their expensive chargers. Apple needs a minus section for their product rating.
What exactly is the point of reviewing a product if the manufacturer doesn't read any of them ? Is Apple so convinced of their market lead that they don't bother to listen to their supporters? Doesn't sound like good business sense to me.
Time to raise your game Apple.

    Tears and frays, exposing wires!

    • Written by Adam S from Essex

£65?! *Sigh* Will get a cheap brand one instead - chances are it'll last longer than the OM version. Three years old and has frayed, split and torn through normal use. Has now exposed the metal wires and needs replacing. Poor design...

Rubbish - why aren't the cables replaceable?????? Money making scam!

    • Written by John B from Bristol

These power adapters are utter rubbish. On a variety of MacBooks, I've had four of these fail (out of four!) ALL WITH THE SAME FAULT - the wire fails at the junction with the Magsafe connector. As the connector is proprietary, you can't just get another connector and solder it on, so you have to go to the expense of buying a new adapter, even though the transformer part is fine!! Enviromental? I don't think so - money making more like. And don't buy one of the cheap so called 'genuine' adapters, 'cos they're even worse! An environmentally/customer friendly company would make the lead detachable so that it can be replaced with a new one. BAD, BAD APPLE!

Same problem year after year. Please fix this Apple!!!!

    • Written by Ian A from London

If you've read all the other one star reviews, then you'll know what I'm going to say. Yet another frayed cable at the plug end. Another £65. Everyone is sick of having to fork out for another charger that won't last.

    No good value.

    • Written by stephen L from leeds

For this price id like a personal message from Tim saying sorry. A blown fuse I can handle but when it stops working at a gig with no way of fixing its a sad situation. This has never happened to any of my other laptops. For this price you expect quality materials. Shielded cable to prevent tearing inside.

    Caught on fire!

    • Written by Elena R from Beaconsfield

The cable frayed near the box. Plugged it in, turn around and saw that sparks were flying off it, whenever I moved it would get worse, smoking and emitting little bursts of flames. Had to get someone else to run in and unplug it for me. Could easily have set the house on fire.

    Beyond Rubbish

    • Written by jonathan T from Dudley

Now need a third charger after both former chargers have frayed and both ends and the inner wires become exposed.
Looks like its overheating too as definite signs of brown/scorching where the cable has split. Bad design and utter rubbish for a £1000 laptop.
    Sort it out Apple

People are far too harsh - it's perfectly fine

    • Written by Kieran B from NORTHAMPTON

My original power adapter broke after three years of continuous use. I'm a heavy user of my Macbook Pro and so the charger got a lot of use also. Bought a replacement and it's absolutely fine. I don't expect things to last forever with such heavy use, and so would consider the Apple Power Adapter to be quite durable on all accounts. It goes without saying that the actual MagSafe feature is brilliant and has saved my Macbook Pro from a nasty fall on multiple occasions.

    Overpriced Toot!

    • Written by James T from Grays

Purchased this as a second unit to leave permanently plugged-in downstairs where I usually sit. The outer insulation has now cracked and frayed just near the connector. Admittedly, the thing is about five years old, but then so is the original 'T-shaped' connector that actually came with the macbook, and that's still working and in fine condition. Apple take note: it's stuff like this that will erode your share of the market!

These chargers are so badly designed I am now having to buy my 2nd in two years. The wire connecting to the white box just frays and the internal wires become visible and dangerous. I can no longer charge my laptop without holding the charger in place at a certain angle! It also massively overheats to the point of smelling. I bought my last one less than 18 months ago, and this is my 3rd in 4/5 years and at £65 each they are a complete rip off. This has been a problem for such a long time so I am both surprised and disappointed that a new design hasn't been developed.

Falls apart. Up until now I was dead impressed with Apple products. Now I think I'll look elsewhere because for something that breaks which is at a rip off £65 you can whistle if you think I'm forking out for another one. I'll just but a windows laptop instead.

    • Written by Ross M from Bristol

I take great care of my laptop. I also take great care of the charging cable and always make a point of not wrapping it up when putting it away. Yet after less than one year the cable is split and internal wiring is clearly visible. And now I have to spend £65 on a new identical poor quality charger. Sort it out Apple, I give you way too much money already.
