    poor quality

    • Written by andrea D from Coatbridge

like other reviews i am really annoyed at this product. i expect a charger to last more than 1 year which is all i got from this. within that year too it was temperamental before it finally ceased up on me for good. Being a new convert to mac products, i have found that their accessories such as this and the usb cables and usb plugs for the iphones/ipads/ipods are really poor quality despite the grace of their machines.

    Stopped working after 3 weeks

    • Written by John S from Newtownmountkennedy

I got this to replace my original T-shaped magnetic end adapter which lasted 4 years. This new adapter stopped working after less than three weeks. Terrible product. However, IF your item is less than 1 year old and you can prove this with a receipt Apple will replace it free of charge. They are really good at replacing items within warranty.

    Not a reliable product..

    • Written by Hadi A from Bornemouth

Apple products are well known for their outstanding quality,
these chargers on the other hand are absolutely awful.

I'm about to buy my 3rd charger now. the other 2 chargers stopped working for no obvious reasons!!!.

For an Apple branded, expansive product, this is an absolute disgrace.

I have had to replace this product 4 times!!!! 4!!!! Are u kidding me? I'm a full time student, I can't deal with the outrageous cost of a charger that is just going to fail within another 2 months. All of these people writing reviews are right! It's a flawed design, and I'm sure you guys could care less about your customers. I have just missed a Paper because of this charger..... I thought if I invested 1000 dollars in a MacBook pro it would actually be worth it.
I am VERY dissatisfied with my purchase thus far...

    Terrible Design

    • Written by Elise M from Brighton

Buying my 3rd charger now, if apple products were priced at the lower end of the market I'd be more understanding. Why put so much time and energy into making beautiful laptops if you can't reliably charge them?!

    not happy

    • Written by Tom B from hatfiled

had a magsafe t shape charger that came with my macbook it worked perfectly for 2 and a half years then broke not to bothered because it was in constant use and worked up until then, little bit cheesed off that i had to pay £50 for a new one, evan more cheesed of that the replacement doesn't seem to work unless its in a very specific position, really not happy because im a bit of an apple geek and have never had any problems with any apple products up until now and i really dont understand how they can charge so much for a charger that doesn't seem to work very well

    Amazingly BAD

    • Written by Stephan A from LINCOLN

it all looks nice and everything and worked perfectly for the first 4 months and now i have to buy a new one because it is just cutting out. at least with the T shaped charger, it only broke by the wire ripping and you will see when it is breaking. this one overheats often so just stops and now i have to constantly move it around to work.

anyway looks nice but doesn't work

    poor quality

    • Written by Adam A from Cambridge

I had to buy new charger after first stopped to work. The new charger lasted only six months because of the poor quality of components. The low quality of materials caused the jacket covering the wire to split.
In the apple store I have been told that it's look like I pinched the cable with doors and therefore they will not provide free replacement. They do not want to admit that their product is simply - a rubbish one!

    Low quality design

    • Written by Matthew L from London

Identical problems to so many other MacBook users:

Cable wear where it joins the 'brick' - low quality design means the cable at that end simply can't offer the flexibility it ought to.

    Overheating of the 'brick'.

Loss of connectivity between the MacBook and the Magsafe connector, meaning charging gets interrupted.

The problem is that there is no alternative to Apple's own charger. If, like me, you already own a MacBook (and if you're reading this chances are you do), then it seems you're stuffed. For the same reason presumably - i.e. a captive market - a new charger is so expensive compared to similar devices for non-Apple products.

If you don't yet own a MacBook, well, the sheer number of 1 star reviews tells its own story, as does the complete absence of a response from Apple. Something to consider if weighing up whether to buy Apple.

    Absolute rubbish

    • Written by Robert T from BARNSLEY

The charger that came with my £800 MacBook broke after about 18 months. Apple will not replace it for free. I know this is outside of the warranty, but I think it is fair to expect something that costs that much money to work for longer than that. The charger that came with a Sony Vaio which I got almost 6 years ago, and which was much cheaper still works. The magsafe connector is poorly designed, it has inadequate strain relief, causing the wires to fray, breaking the connections and shorting them to the metal case. This also causes a potential fire hazard. Get your act together Apple...

    A few words of caution

    • Written by George T from Birchanger

Like a few others, I've experienced the usual failure mode of this product - the broken cable where it exits the "brick".

I too baulked at the cost of a replacement from Apple and repaired it by opening the case (relatively easy - it only seems to be welded/glued in four places), cutting out the broken section of the cable - which shortens it by an inch or two and soldering/ reinsulating/re-assembling the case and re-glueing sparingly with super glue.

It seemed to work but I thought that the broken cable might have shorted and caused a potential problem for the longer term so, I purchased a replacement on ebay at half the cost of the Apple product. This duly arrived from Hong Kong and seemed to be identical to the Apple product - even down to the label.

BIG MISTAKE!! Although it seemed to work OK I experienced some strange behaviour on the Trackpad. The cursor would move jerkilly and sometimes just lost it's accuracy. I proved it was the power pack by operating on just the battery and am now re-using the original power pack that I repaired - result; smooth cursor.

Anybody want a Hong Kong copy of the Apple power pack - you too can have a cursor with a mind of it's own!!

I am now on my third charger in 1 and a half years. They burn out quickly and suddenly without warning cease to function. You fiddle with the cables thinking if you hold it up high or coiled in a certain way it will suddenly fix itself. This does not happen. Simply the mac adapter’s are sub-standard and apple know of this too well but do nothing about it. Instead the price for new ones has remained at £50 despite all the complaints. This has put me off buying a macbook again and simply will be going back to windows for my next computer in the coming year. For now I have to fork out more money to get a charger which will probably last until the summer.

    Terribly disappointed in Apple

    • Written by Harry P from Cambridge

I haven't had my Mac book long, maybe just under a year and already the charger is broken, the magnetic connector is loose & spins all the way around, it also gets awfully hot.

Seeing reviews here I am now wondering if I should bother continuing with a Mac at all, the chargers are pricy and I certainly cannot afford to keep replacing them if this is going to be a regular occurrence.

    Evidently Flawed

    • Written by Jake B from Chelmsford

Having owned my MacBook for coming on 2 years with no problems at all with the power adapter, I was glad I'd forked out the extra pounds on an Apple product. However, in the past two weeks, I've had 2 power adaptors fail on me. Reading the reviews, and experiencing it myself, it seems quite clear to me that there is a serious design flaw with the power adapters. What's worse is that they expect us to pay £50 for an evidently substandard product, with no alternative for the consumer. Now I'm going to have to spend another £10 in petrol travelling to and from the Apple store for the third time in two weeks. That's £80 plus 3 lost mornings of work. I hope this problem is fixed as soon as possible. I cannot afford such frequent journeys to get a replacement. Please, Apple, maintain my loyalty.

Second in 3 years - shocking failure rate on this product

    • Written by Steven R from Edinburgh

So when you read every review on this product you can see it's a consistently poor performer, I'd just like to add to the list.

Now reading the others it seems like 2 in 3 years is a great rate compared to others, but in reality a charger going once in 3 years is very poor for a brand such as Apple never mind 2 in 3 years.

I'd say avoid this product but what other options did I have at the time?? The original blew so had to buy another which blew and now the last one has gone.

Again, avoid ... But I assume the only other option is to sit with a blank screen MacBook.

Apple, you really need to do something here, your standards here are appalling. I'm actually angry that I had to give it one star, it doesn't deserve that.

    Not good enough!

Only lasted a month when handled with care, shocking!

    • Written by Matthew R from Cardiff

Firstly - this only gets one star because it looks good (and you can't put 0 stars). I have had this product for 1 month after replacing an old charger that had stopped working. It has already stopped working and after the issues with the last one, I had handled this one incredibly gently to try and get as long out of it as possible. Obviously I can get a replacement but I really shouldn't need to waste my time.

Serious problems here apple - listen to your customers - replace this charger.

Most awful product ever by any standards.

    • Written by Sandeep S from Manchester

So far this is the most awful product i have ever come across by any reputable company. I have mac book pro for 2 years and so far i had to change the charger 3 times. Every time the charger will heat up and will stop functioning. Not only me but same problems with my colleague who uses mac book pro as well. Cant imagine that a company like apple will come up with such a trash !!! What is the point of making a £1000+ mac book if they cant make a quality charger with this. Just to annoy even further, thanks for keeping the price £50 for a new one!! Next time this charger goes off the macbook will go away with it (in the bin). Never going to buy any apple product again

    Inadequate lifetime of use

    • Written by Ciara A from London

Am about to purchase my 3rd adapter in 2 years which to my mind makes it an appalling product, inadequate for its intended use. Apple really need to resolve this - it lets down a good product in the Mac.
