    Looks good but bad cabling!

    • Written by Linden S from Newport Pagnell

Any Engineer will tell you what one of the problem is here - it is the thinness of the wire that connects the "brick" to the MagSafe plug. Mine lasted 2 yrs but the wire broke where it enters the brick because of constant bending - it's called "work hardening". Would I pay £50 for a new one - you must be joking. I ran my hobby saw round the seams on 3 sides of the brick to cut thru the plastic; prised the two halves apart; cut the grommet from the wire (where it enters the brick); stripped back the covering on the wire that is attached to the MagSafe plug; separated the wires and re-soldered them to the wires inside the brick, put insulating tape on them and put both halves of the brick back together again and secured them with electrical tape!

It ain't pretty but it works and about an hour's labour saved me £50!! This charger needs a wire on it that is at least double the thickness of the present wire in order to make it more robust. Or is this a sneaky ploy to introduce a limited life to these things so that we have to constantly purchase new ones and thus increase Apple's revenue??

Don't bother buying a new one, if you can use a hobby saw, craft knife and a soldering iron - FIX IT YOURSELF!!! It's not hard and what have you to lose?

Come on Apple - don't be so arrogant and get your act together on these things and LISTEN to your customers!!! We're not all wrong - this is a bad design with inadequate wiring and will continue to cause problems until YOU fix it!!! As for the cost of a new one - you're taking the mickey aren't you???

    very poor again

    • Written by David D from East Kilbride

The adaptor on my sons 2 yr old Macbook stopped working last week. On checking the reviews on this site I counted myself lucky that we managed to get 2 yrs out of ours. Worried however about the experience of others I decided to purchase a new one from a shop rather than on line in case a new one became faulty.

Thank goodness I did!! A new one was bought at PC World today which is a 2 minute drive from my house. The charger was on less than one hour when it 'packed in'. At my request PC World linked it to one of their in-store Macbooks as I was concerned there was something wrong with my sons Macbook. However, it was completely dead and it was exchanged for a new one. The second replacement is ok for now but I'll be keeping a close eye on it. Ridiculous given the price.

I've been using Windows based laptops all my life and not once have I ever had a problem with a charger breaking. I've had my first ever Macbook pro for 3 weeks and it's dead already. Considering this is a generic charger that covers so many of their products, it's practically embarrassing that they got it so wrong and even worse won't admit it. Pathetic.

    • Written by James M from Birmingham

Firstly, the charger is awful. With any product i purchase, I don't expect it to break after 6 months of use.

Secondly, People have said "DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT"

If I don't buy this product, is there another product somewhere that will charge my Macbook?

    Why don't Apple listen?

    • Written by Brian C from Falkirk

I'm obviously not on my own here in being sick to the back teeth about this charger. I am now awaiting my 5th having received my 4th last week. Within a few days the charging symbol on my Mac kept on switching to 'Not charging', as well as the charger itself getting extremely hot.

This was my first experience of the new charger which, I had hoped, had been introduced as an improvement on the former style. Clearly I was wrong! The question is, do I go for non-Apple chargers next time, as clearly Apple are perfectly contented in continuing to receive the dosh for a 4th rate product

I've never been so disgusted with a product.

    • Written by Nathan R from Bromsgrove

Apple, take note, you need to make a new charger, not send out replacements to the same people 3-4 times a year.

I'm on my 4th Charger now, (6th if you include the knock off's that have also failed)
I've payed over £200 on replacing my macbook chargers, pretty much a quarter of what i payed for the actual macbook itself.

Stop acting like its the customers who are at fault for your faulty technology and update it with a more robust wire, and a more robust shell.
Have a look at the reviews from the product for proof that it is a piece of ****

    Rubbish cables

    • Written by Paul S from Woodford green

I had the same problem with my ibook adapter. The connection breaks by the plug that goes into the computer. Now after 2 years my Macbook cable has done the same. It is awful when you pay 3 times the amount for a mac than you would pay for a PC, and have parts that are this unreliable and badly made. This really is the worst part about Macs.
Apple, fix this issue. i think you can see your customers are not happy.

    Rubbish for 4 reasons

    • Written by David H from Edinburgh

Reason 1. It has, like so many others, it failed within months.
Reason 2. Even before it failed, connection, although not terrible, was a bit hit & miss.
Reason 3. The whole point of the 'saf'e part of the design is that if the cable is caught, it releases...uh...safely. Try tugging the cable from several angles and I guarantee that you'll be able to pull the laptop right off the table from at least a few of them.
Reason 4. This should be an improvement on the previous 'T-shaped' design. See points 1-3.

Come on Apple. This is not some add-on accessory. It is absolutely vital and to not have had a recall, when there are clearly some serious defects is a bit of a middle finger to your customers.

    Rubbish charger, no alternative

    • Written by Connor A from Leicester

I'm now having to buy my fourth one of these chargers due to the shoddy build quality and short lifespan of them. I just wish there were some alternative so that I didn't have to keep spending a ridiculous amount of money on a charger that is going to break without doubt.

My first one lasted about 6 months, the second around four and this last one I only replaced in August. For an apple product it is hugely dissapointing.

MagSafe - Failed again! Fix this now Apple!

    • Written by John I from Stratton Audley

Firstly let me say that I love Apple products. I have had three iphones, I'm a registered iphone developer and my MacBook is one of the nicest things I own.
After less than 18 months of use the original MagSafe that came with my MacBook failed. I loved my Apple products so much that I paid for a new one to get my machine working again.
The new MagSafe was of the new design.
After just one more year the new MagSafe has failed.
I have used PCs for more than 20 years, generally they are much lower quality than the Macs. However, I have only ever had one power supply failure. MagSafe is a great design concept, but let down by poor execution.
Apple, you need to fix this now.

    ROTTEN APPLE!!

    • Written by Hayla A from Stanmore

Absolutely horrendous...having SO much trouble with adapters at the moment...the new design is appauling. The material that the wire is now fashioned from is horrible and awkward and doesn't bend easily. My charger started to crack and tear and looked like a rat had been gnawing on it - i had used it entirely as instructed for a couple of months and then had to argue with the "genius" at the apple store for a replacement. THANK GOODNESS FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY!!!!!!!! ...but this will eventually run out - and then what apple??? I decided to buy a spare adapter so that i'd have a back up for when the inevitable happened *sigh*...THIS ONE STOPPED WORKING AFTER 24 HOURS!!!!!??? LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS APPLE... WE PAY ENOUGH!!! WE WANT BETTER QUALITY PRODUCTS!!!!!!!!

    • Written by Benjamin T from Dumfries

I've had this charger for less than 6 months. Despite my taking care of it, it has now stopped working. If Apple think this is worth £50 then they are deluding themselves. Please Apple, redesign the charger and make it a sensible price. Surely £20 would be a better price than this rip-off.

    Hi
I find it totallly disgusting how these chargers burn out so quickly and just stop working alltogether. you have to constantly replace at £50.00 a pop. Apple make billions of dollars surely they should be able to fix this charger problem once and for all.

    • Written by Joey W from Bangor

Honestly, Apple? I expected better. It caused my MacBook to just turn off unexpectedly innumerable times, before only charging intermittently and then killing itself. And when you consider the price we pay for it; I now have to fork out £50 because of a faulty product. Just plain unacceptable.
