    Get your act together

    Honestly, Apple? I expected better. It caused my MacBook to just turn off unexpectedly innumerable times, before only charging intermittently and then killing itself. And when you consider the price we pay for it; I now have to fork out £50 because of a faulty product. Just plain unacceptable.

    after about 9 months my is not working properly but unfortunately your going to need one if you have a macbook pro 13 inch.

    Even though I like Apple products, for the price you pay, this should not fail. It has and I am extremely disappointed. If Apple checked the reviews here, they should try and do something about it.

    Lasted about a year

    I have had my MacBook 13" about a year and this has just stopped charging. This is as bad as the iPhone charging cables. Even though I have AppleCare, I don't expect it will be covered. This product does not match the quality of the MacBook. Very unhappy.

    Very poor product

    Wish I'd read all the other reviews before I bought this expensive adapter - I think I have been lucky as mine has lasted 18 months but this is just not good enough. Looking at the dates of the earliest reviews, Apple has had plenty of time to improve the adapter but have not done so. This is very disappointing and lets down the company badly when so many of their products are worth the extra cost. What to do now?

    Terrible Charger

    Bought a 2011 MacBook Pro 13" power supply died within 6 months. The replacement died immediately and now my third one is dead. I have never had a problem with PC power packs like this one. The cheesy, skinny cord dents, breaks, kinks and just doesn't work. For something as important as powering the computer, one would imagine that it would be built to withstand some abuse. Nope...it's just made to look pretty.

    I am buying this as an replacement for my old charger which broke after 2,5 years. In my opinion very poor quality compared to excellent quality of Mac computers.

    I have had mine for less than a year and about a month ago the head of the the
    charger started to become incredibly hot. As of yesterday my charger stopped working completely. When I reported this problem to apple they just said that it was my fault and that I have to buy a new charger

    This charger is terrible

    the original charger wasnt working just after few months. New one wasnt better either. For an expensive product like mackbook pro apple should do something about this since replacment is 80EUR!!. This is the worst charger ever, had a windows based laptop and the charger never ever broke there.

    Useless

    I've had three of these spontaneously break, which is very inconvenient, and very expensive at £50 a go. And I'm careful with both my charger and my MBP, so to have to keep replacing these (warranty has run out) is just annoying.

    Great!

    Bought the new 2011 13 inch MacBook Pro a few months ago and wondered how much it would cost to replace the charger, £50... Not a bad price for such a high quality piece of kit.

    Pro's
    -It's MagSafe, one of the best types of chargers I've come across.
    -The transformer doesn't get nearly as hot as my old Dell or Acer laptops.
    -Charges REALLY quickly, within an hour it's full and will last a good 5 or 6 hours.
    -Transformer has a built-in cable tidy, which really made me smile when I got it out of the box.

    Cons
    -The laptop connector does get quite warm but I imagine this is because the laptop and charger are both metal.
    -The cable tends to hold it's shape witch is no big deal but if i'm unwrapping it in a hurry it can be irritating.
    -It blew a fuse in the first week but I'm told there was a power surge in my street.

    Overall well worth the money, especially so if you are replacing the old T style connector as I hear that style was awful.

    Positively annoyed.

    Here I am again, buying my 2nd power adapter from Apple. I assure those who are looking through rose coloured glasses in some of these rare 5* reviews that I haven't been hitting it against walls, treating it poorly or for some odd reason keeping it "stored in water".

    Surprisingly, my T-shaped magsafe did a lot better than the new L-shape magsafe, and had lasted me a whole lot longer than just a measly year. Of course, up till this point, my charger had served me well and I was pretty content, but having it only for a year until it stops charging is not good enough.

    Please improve this product, Apple.

    Ok, it's an innovative system; fine it may fail at some point, like all wires do eventually (although this one seems to fail earlier than others). However charging 50 quid for a replacement is not fair. Mine is now showing signs of fatigue after a little bit more than 1 year, i.e. need to position the cable in a particular way to get power... how disappointed to find out the instance price of a replacement.

    Try resetting the SMC

    I recently bought this Adaptor because my previous one just stopped charging my (late 2008) Macbook. This new one worked fine...for two days...then it also stopped! I had read all the bad reviews but really, if you want to keep using your Macbook you have no choice but to buy a new charger. I had treated the thing like it was the crown jewels; never kinking the wires, never tugging the connection and plugging and unplugging with the utmost care so when it suddenly stopped working I knew it was not because of any harsh treatment.

    For interest's sake I tried my old one again...low and behold, it worked! The orange LED came on and my Macbook started charging. This was very odd - I had tried everything I could think of to make that thing work before and nothing. So I then reconnected my new adaptor, just to see if the glitch had somehow cleared. Nope! The new one still didn't work and the old one still did.

    So after a lot of googling on the subject I eventually saw a tip about resetting the SMC (support dot apple dot com/kb/ht3964). That fixed it! This seems to indicate that the problem was not with the adaptors at all but with my Macbook (or possibly the aged battery). So before you conclude that the adaptor is a faulty design (as you might do from reading some of these reviews) consider that many of those bad experiences may be similar to mine and could be remedied with a simple SMC reset.

    Power cable

    My first power cable broke. Bought a replacement. In less than a year, it has stopped working. So I need to buy a 3rd power cable. This is a rip off. Apple should know by now there is something wrong with the product design of the power cables and fix it. I will never buy another Apple laptop ever again.

    Bought this power adapter today and notice that it only charges my laptop to 96% of its capacity - and the little indicator light is green, suggesting that the battery is fully charged. The charger that came with this 3 year old MacBook used to charge to 100%.
    Also, I just looked down at the bit that fits onto the side of the MacBook and noticed that the light was not on. After 'wiggling' it around, the green light has come back on.
    Does not fill me with confidence for a long and happy relationship with this power adaptor!
    Come on Apple, this piece of equipment really lets you (and us) down.

    Very, very poor product

    These power adapters should be rock solid reliable, but in reality quite the opposite is true. I've now bought three Mac laptops (13" white Macbook, 13" aluminium body Macbook, and most recently a 13" Macbook Pro) and the power adapters for all three have failed, all within a fairly short amount of time (a year or less from new). I've bought two replacements, and I guess it's just a matter of time before they fail as well. At the price Apple charge for these units, this lack of reliability is a disgrace and does Apple no favours whatsoever.
