    Poor quality

    • Written by Roisin P from Manchester

Such poor quality, Apple need to work on the design and material. Need to buy my third one and what is the point when it's just going to fray anyway :/

    Utter rubbish

    • Written by Ross M from Bristol

I take great care of my laptop. I also take great care of the charging cable and always make a point of not wrapping it up when putting it away. Yet after less than one year the cable is split and internal wiring is clearly visible. And now I have to spend £65 on a new identical poor quality charger. Sort it out Apple, I give you way too much money already.

Poor Quality with an extortionate price.

    • Written by Katie Ellen from Colne

One star is too much. at £65 you expect some semblance of quality, but no once again I am replacing my charger the 4th one in as many years, my computer is not moved around it lives on a desk and is very well cared for but the wires still fray I've had this one held together with insulation tape as I didn't want to fork out yet another £65 but I am going to have to. This product needs a re design, I love my apple products and suffer serious brand loyalty and don't want to buy copy brands, but once my macbook dies I'm seriously considering moving on to another brand I am paying £65 a year just to charge my laptop. I always by from my local store and I've been in for a charger and they always give me the same "ah did the wire twist or fray." this is a constant problem and needs redesigning or making with a higher quality coating.

L-style connector neck getting damaged for design fault customer has to pay

    • Written by Chaithanya K from Bracknell

the L-type has to be redesigned for long lasting as the L - style connector cable gets damaged at the neck, and is expensive to replace with whole adaptor paying £65.00 for the design failure. Customer is paying for apples design failure.

Works great, but not for long.

    • Written by Cesco W from Norwich

This is the clean Apple-style of design that we love. The problem is style over function. My Mac is an "olde beest", bought in Autumn 2009. The charger that it came with, with the old T-style connector, did last a while. After that, I had to buy a new charger nearly every year, being on my fourth now. Like others have said, they all break at the same point; the joint between the connector and the cable.

This has been a major design flaw for years and Apple has been knowing about it (because, in their defence, my first replacement was given to me for free by them). My greatest disappointment lies in the fact that they have done zilch to resolve this in their design permanently.

I must admit that this even makes me wary of buying a new mac. What if all their chargers are still like this?

    Rubbish quality

    • Written by M K E from London

this is the 3rd time we have to replace this cable. like previous reviewers have pointed out.. it breaks really easily due to its design and rubbish quality. So disappointed that we have to spend another £65 to replace it!

The biggest disadvantage of having a macbook

    • Written by Esther B from London

MacBooks are great. I love my laptop. I love being able to use my laptop even more. I've been through 3 chargers in the past two years which costs me over £90 per year just to charge my mac. For someone with a students budget, this is disastrous. It doesn't matter how you treat the cable. Within a couple of months the joint between the head of the charger and the wire starts wearing thin and then a few months later the wires are exposed. The design is ridiculous. Any idiot could tell that by placing the head and the wire in a line like that, any movement places stress on that joint. This is literally the worst apple product sold. It's expensive, shoddy and completely not worth the money. Alas, today I bought yet another one. At least, it's reliable for the few months the insulation lasts. I wish I could give this less than 1 star.

    Poorly made and expensive replacement

    • Written by Benny H from Manchester

I am on my 3rd broken charger now. First one came with the laptop and I had to buy another 2 after that. Every charger breaks at the fixed connection point (where the white box and the line connects) after about 12/15 months of usage.

Every charger is anothe £65, now I need to buy another one.

Apple is really testing my loyalty here !

Poor design resulting in fraying cable. Cable frays then breaks and sparks

    • Written by Trevor H from WOKING

Suggested design improvement would be a cable end that swivels or one that doesn't fray and break.

    Terrible Quality

    • Written by T N from London

As everyone has written on here already , the charger is such a terrible quality , no matter how careful you are with using it , it will break and will cost you a 65 pounds to replace it with yet another poor quality product !! Come on apple seriously !!! is this the cutting edge technology and material being used in designing this product !! ??

I am not the first (everyone I know are on their 2nd Macbook Pro chargers, at least!), nor will I be the last. The flimsy cadding is easily perforated. Despite being very careful mine has broken so needs replacing. It's been held together with electric tape for a couple of months but isnow completely destroyed. When my laptop breaks I will be replacing it with a non-Apple product. This is a shame as most tech I own is Apple but it's not worth the £65 to replace a charger! Ridiculous. Sort out the design or lower the price of replacing it!!!

I have renewed three of these. They are flimsy, overheat and fray and fall apart within 18 months (just outside warranty!), however well you look after them. Then they charge £65 for them. It's appalling treatment of loyal customers. One star is too many.

Very poorly made - an excuse for apple to print money

    • Written by Pete B from London

Poorly made - I've been through 3 of these in the past few years. The thin cable to the mac either frays or they just suddenly stop working all together. They overheat something dreadful too. Worst thing is - they slap an extortionate £65 price tag on them! for what?! An item that (no matter how well you take care of) will break after 18 months. Sort it out, apple.

    Finally redesigned plus extra warranty!

    • Written by Emily B from EXETER

So not a happy bunny as two of these frayed/broken but store supplied replacements with 3 year extended warranties thrown in. Apparently Apple have redesigned them back to the old T shape and are now issuing 3 year warranties as standard. Had to have the old L shape for my Macbook due to its age but at least I now have peace of mind and money in my pocket for a few years.

Can I give it zero stars?

    • Written by Oliver W from Cardiff

Bought my third, they tend to break after about 18 months so no warranty then. Extremely poor product, the one that just died had never left my office. MagSafe 1 was way more robust, this is just just - the pins don't come out any more so it was starting to arc! Well done apple!

    its not that bad

    • Written by Julia S from Fareham

I saw the reviews and was shocked, i had to buy a new charger.. but my old one lasted me 5 years ! yes it had tape round it for the last 2 years so the weak points don't break but for heaven sake people its not that bad. Expensive is the only real issue here otherwise the new charger hopefully will last long again i use my laptop everyday so its not like i cant see when the weak points start to break again. But 5 years for one charger ? not to bad really.

    Could be improved

    • Written by Juan V from London

I also experienced issues with this product, similar to the other reviewers. However, I am a big supporter of using official products from the official store rather than 3rd party products. Perhaps Apple could improve this product instead.

    Still no good

    • Written by Fraser K from Castle Douglas

These chargers are still rubbish. When I bought my Macbook air, I asked the 'genius' if they'd improved the durability of the chargers, which they assured me that they had. Well, here I am, with a charger which has only survived the length of time that it has, thanks to the wonder sugru, with another charger which has died, the night before a big uni deadline.

Please, can you make an effort to produce a durable product, rather than one which merely looks pretty...
