    Awful and expensive

    • Written by Teresa D from London

Really badly designed and adding insult to injury buying a replacement is horribly expensive.

Our laptop rarely gets moved around much; with such light handling the cable should not have failed.

I only wanted to give this product half a star, but the lowest you can give is a whole star....

This irritating hassle and expense is what puts people like me off apple products - esp now when there is a lot more choice in the shops

Terrible, have had 3 in 3.5 years

    • Written by Anna B from Edinburgh

These are awful chargers, and so expensive for something that keeps breaking. You expect more when you pay so much for a laptop. Unfortunately the fake ones are no better and potentially dangerous. Hope something is done about this soon.

Multiple Failures of 60W Magsafe Power Adapter

    • Written by Matthew H from Bungay

Second of my power adapaters has now broken after only 3 uses, clearly a flaw in the product I hope Apple has resolved / will do soon. I would not recommend but there are no alternatives I know of.

    Horrible quality, ridiculous price

    • Written by Kyle D from Columbus

I am extremely gentle with my chargers, but given enough time the same problem always happens. The rubber casing always starts to come off, and before long the charger stops working due to a short caused by the exposed wires. I have gone through far too many of these cables, and for the INSANE price of 79.99 they should be made of higher quality rubber. The same issue is present in the iphone chargers, horribly cheap rubber leads to exposed wires, leads to a useless cable. Apple should address this issue, because I have spent far too much money on these chargers, and because of Apple's predatory business practices there are no safe alternatives to their chargers for macbooks. At least with the iphones they sell a 3rd party cable in the apple store (physical store only) that is a flat cable made of superior quality rubber. I wish they would do the same for macbooks because I just want a cable that lasts.

In case anyone is wondering: I never coil my cables - even though they have prongs on the power block specifically for that so you would think the cables could withstand that.

    Huge design flaw

    • Written by Joseph J from Bournemouth

This is now my 4th MagSafe charger I've had from Apple after the others have yellowed and decayed after only 4-5 months. This one has now split! I keep it in one position mostly apart from carrying it in a laptop bag when travelling.

Not only that, but now it is also deciding to turn yellow once again which suggests that the insides are cooking themselves. Who knows how long it will last me but I certainly won't be putting another large sum of money on an inferior product.

Bring back the T-shaped chargers. They were absolutely brilliant!

    poor charger

It just stopped working and then I checked where the cable connects to the charger and it sparked and now not even safe to try it again.
Agree with All these posts. Amazing laptop, terrible charger.

never lasts long maybe 2 months at max

    • Written by joy H from LONDON

in 3 years with mac books we have gone through endless apple 60w magsafe power adapters the latest again snapping and sparking at both ends of the cable. Basically my advice is never move your charger lead. Keep it plugged in one place. Just bought a non original charger from ebay and fried my mac book. Never do that.

    Unfit for purpose

    • Written by Rebecca R from Nailsea

The quality of the power adapter is absolutely disgusting. The rubber casing for the charging cable has perished and wires are now exposed, this makes this product unsafe and dangerous. From reading other reviews on this website it seems that many other apple customers are dissatisfied with the quality of the power adapter. Apple should repair the known faults with the chargers.

Having to purchase a new one after 12 months is very disappointing.
Given that Apple lead the way on technology why not resolve this problem for customers. Its worse as Apple are charging so much for a replacement.

Not as bad as all that

    • Written by Will M from Tonbridge

In my experience this charger has been pretty solid. I broke mine after a year of abuse (running it over with chairs, dropping it), bought a dodgy replacement that nearly set alight, then borrowed my friends 5 YEAR OLD charger for 4 months. Fair enough, they are delicate, but they really aren't as fragile as people seem to think. I also think 90% of problems on here stem from faulty SMC devices in the notebooks themselves- Mine went a bit haywire, but I reset it and it works fine- Minus the battery damage my Imitation charger caused :(

Fed up with this inferior product

    • Written by Dylan J from Stratford-upon-Avon

There seems to be a common theme here, these products are substandard compared to the high quality of the laptop.

Mine has packed up after a year of use where the thinner cable leaves the many transformer body.

I work from home so it's just typically daily use that has done for it.

Really need to make these more rugged, it seems like there is a total design flaw, they shouldn't be breaking down this regularly, leaves a sour taste after having invested so much in the overall product.

Got this with my MacBook Pro a few months ago and it has already stopped working, the same situation with my old mac, went through 4 of them. Apple needs to sort this out as my patience is wearing thin.

Good for new MacBooks, bad for old

    • Written by rachel C from Oberaegeri

When my old MacBook charger eventually broke, I bought this as a replacement, however it didnt work properly and as a result had to buy a new MacBook in the end. It works great with that and this is 3 years after I got it, so overall I am very happy with it

No charger should ever cost this amount of money. They never last well, mainly because there's no good way to coil up the cable - it always causes tension on the cable and breaks.

But then what's the customer's alternative? There is none. Apple win again.

Apple make rock solid aluminium laptops and supplement them with these shoddy, plastic pieces of trash. I am a student and I'm on my 3rd charger in 5 years.

I've just ordered my 3rd charger in as many years - the design is nice and works well but this is the second time my charger has just seemingly 'died', it just stops charging, not registering in the socket or displaying the LED light, after a few weeks of it having to be in just the right position and constant adjusting.

    Unusually shoddy for Apple

    • Written by James B from Ruislip

I have had my macbook pro since 2010, and during this period I have been through 3 of these chargers (luckily the first 2 were through my AppleCare). I am ALWAYS careful with my charger, winding it up carefully when travelling with it, and unplugging it when done charging. Poor work Apple.

    Worst ever

    • Written by David R from Melbourne

Mac laptop power supplies have always been the poorest part of the Mac laptop experience. This one is the worst there has ever been. At the lightest touch or pull it becomes detached and you are running on battery power. You have to constantly check it is still plugged in place. If you have the laptop on your lap the slightest move dislodges the magnetic tap. This can happen twenty times in a day's work. Really Apple ought to have rethought the design of this before letting it out on the world. Only way to make it work consistently is to tape it in place.
If I could give zero stars I would.
