    Unusually shoddy for Apple

    • Written by James B from Ruislip

I have had my macbook pro since 2010, and during this period I have been through 3 of these chargers (luckily the first 2 were through my AppleCare). I am ALWAYS careful with my charger, winding it up carefully when travelling with it, and unplugging it when done charging. Poor work Apple.

    Worst ever

    • Written by David R from Melbourne

Mac laptop power supplies have always been the poorest part of the Mac laptop experience. This one is the worst there has ever been. At the lightest touch or pull it becomes detached and you are running on battery power. You have to constantly check it is still plugged in place. If you have the laptop on your lap the slightest move dislodges the magnetic tap. This can happen twenty times in a day's work. Really Apple ought to have rethought the design of this before letting it out on the world. Only way to make it work consistently is to tape it in place.
If I could give zero stars I would.

    Unsafe

    • Written by Andrew H from Oxford

After about 6 months the rubber coating on the cable started fraying. Now (getting on for three years after purchase) the magnet separates from the rest of the charger when trying to unplug from the laptop. This leaves the contacts exposed, which emit sparks if they touch the case of the MacBook Pro. This is because the magnet is too strong for the build quality.

This charger replaces a previous one which stop charging (but still powered the computer) after about 6 months. At this level of unreliability, lack of safety, and with Apple's usual ridiculously high accessory prices, I'll be opting for a dodgy third party replacement through Amazon rather than going for the official adapter again.

For like the first few days it was ok but then it got really REALLY worst , it only works when in certain positions , £65 it was! VERY EXPENSIVE, i would definetly recommend to get one off ebay as its cheaper and probably better , its like im being scammed to pay £65 for something which is faulty, Buy the T shape from amazon or ebay , apple stopped selling them WORST THING TO DO !!!!!!

    Yet again it has broken

    • Written by andrew P from Salisbury

This is the third time I have to replace the charger on my MacBook Pro and I'm sick and fed up with it. I could accept it more if they weren't 60 or 70 quid each time. Surely to god they should last more than 6 months can time. I love my Mac and was happy to pay the significant price for it but enough is enough. Back to a laptop for me. Apple refuse to even admit there is a problem and their ignorance is the end for me. Good luck with keeping your customers.

    Disgraceful

    • Written by andrew T from Stebbing

My charger stopped working so I was forced to buy a new one costing me £65. The charger doesn't work with my 2011 MacBook Pro.

Nearly every review on this site has been negative and apple still over charge for an extreamly poor product. I am starting to go off apple products and I have apple phones, iPad, MacBook Pro and when it comes to updating my products I think I will steer well clear from apple.

Sort it out apple or risk losing many more customers.

A poor and expensive product. I dont mind paying a premium for a quality product but I do not like feeling ripped off for a poor one like this adapter

Everyone has the same problem - 3rd Charger now in 2 years (from 50 to £65)

    • Written by NATHAN G from Birmingham

Firstly I don't understand why the price for the macbook charger has gone up? The design is smart I like the magnet idea but the cable which attaches the mains to the mac should be thicker or users will keep having the same problem. Suprised why they have not changed this fault.

Really unacceptable - cable doesn't last and the square block gets too hot to even touch.

    Annoyingly bad

    • Written by A T C from st austell

I've had my macbook for about two years and I'm about to buy my fourth charger. I'm quite careful with the wire and don't wrap it tightly so it doesn't break, but that doesn't seem to help. Being a student it isn't easy to pay for a new charger when the old one decides to give up, so I'm pretty disappointed as the laptop itself is perfect for me.

Absolutely fine - don't know what all the other reviews are talking about!

    • Written by Thom A from LONDON

As far as I can tell, this is exactly the same power adapter as the one you receive in the box when you buy a MacBook Pro. I asked at the store for them to compare them for me and they confirmed that they are the same.

I'm not sure why all of the negative reviews, I can only imagine that the reviewers bought the chargers for their laptops with the wrong wattage.

The adapter comes with a year guarantee also.

I'll report back in a couple of months with an updated review.

    Complete design disaster

    • Written by Robert H from Ashford

Have my Macbook pro 2 years and the power cable is ready for the bin. It is only suitable to be used one direction as blokes the ethernet socket but then can put a lot of pressure on the joint if the cable is located towards you. As a result they break and then resort to fiddling to get the cable to work. Its a common issue and then Apple are smart to charge €79 for a new one. Love my mac and have many other Apple products and this is the biggest thumbs down item.

    Poor quality!

    • Written by Rebecca M from Wetherby

After my original charger for my MacBook eventually broke, I had to buy this, the updated version. My first one broke within a couple of days and I had to take it back for a replacement. I've had this one about a year and it's just starting to go. The metal connector into my MacBook keeps overheating, and I almost burnt myself on it the other day it was so hot. Very dangerous!!!!! It looks as if one of the wires is loose as it will only charge if the wire is in a certain position. This is probably due to the fact that my power source is at a right angle to my MacBook, not in front or behind it so the wire has had to bend to the side. My MacBook is quite old now, and I hope to replace it in the next six months/1 year. I just hope the power adapter holds out till then as I don't fancy spending £65 I don't have on a new adapter. May just look for a 3rd party one for the time being. Disappointing!

    • Written by Ryan N from London

Second charger that broke at the insertion point (which stays stuck into the laptop), and I have to insert the rest of the four pins into the part broken off.

Also frayed 1-1.5 cms from where the rubber cable starts.

I feel sad that I'll have to buy another cable, and another after that.

    Poor poor construction.

    Awful

    • Written by danny F from Coventry

This product is poor. It breaks really easily, the wires become exposed, it fuses itself. I have now had to buy my 4th adapter now. I don't understand why this product is STILL being sold when the quality of it is so weak. For £65 a piece I don't expect it to break so frequently - seriously, sort it out. It's embarrassing and rogue.

    Oh dear...

    • Written by Micky V from London

I bought another one of these in store 5 weeks ago, to replace my 18 month old charger, after a service on my laptop confirmed that the charger port wasn't at fault.

So a brand new charger that gives the same failing symptoms of the 18 month old one: Hotter than the sun to touch after charging for 5 minutes and constant readjusting to try and keep the thing connected.

High end pricing for low end, mass produced disappointment.

If you make cheap, breakable garbage, the least you could do is charge cheap prices. You won't license the manufacture to someone else, I suppose in theory to protect standards, but god help standards that are worse than yours.

Really geting disgusted with Apple about this stuff.
