    Unacceptable!

    • Written by Alexandra M from LONDON

It's the 4th I had to buy in less than 2 years, which means £260 pounds already. If it continues like this in 8 years I would be able to buy a new MacBook with the money spent in chargers only. I'm outraged here!

    4 replacements in 4 years

    • Written by Katia B from Kent

Unreliable product, an unacceptable fact that i have to replace and pay £50 to £65 every single year to replace the charger when the macbook itself is working fine.
Especially as i never have to carry my charger around and it is always at home in a protected environment.
Most usual source of problem the thinner cable SPLITS OPEN FOR NO APPARENT REASON
I HAVE NEVER BEEN OFFERED ONE FOR FREE AS REPLACEMENT BY APPLE.

Terrible. I need to buy my fourth charger in TWO years because these just stop stop working! I'm getting sick of spending so much money on a product that keeps breaking - I might look into changing brands if this persists..

I love my Macbook Pro, but am sick of needing to replace the Magsafe chargers. I am now on my third one. The first began to fray and stopped working after around a year of use, the L shaped bracket on the second one fell off last week! At £70 per time, customers should be able to expect far better from this product.

    Overly Fragile

    • Written by Mark D from TONBRIDGE

I'm on my 3rd of these for my Macbook Pro. The original one and now its replacement have each broken at one end of the thin DC wire that runs from the adapter body to the Macbook. The 1st one broke at the adapter end; its more recent replacement at the magsafe plug end.

After my experience with the original cable breaking, I was sure to treat its expensive replacement carefully, but it still broke after approx 18months of use.

The thin cables on these products are not built stringly enough to withstand ordinary day to day use. Apple has already faced a class action lawsuit in the USA about this issue, but its liability does not extend to the UK, so I'm faced with yet buying another expensive replacement (currently GBP65).

    Expensive and prone to failure

Like many others I am now onto my third power adapter after two failures in the same place. The wiring becomes exposed and dangerous. The price is a bit of a joke. Great laptop, rubbish adapter.

When I have to replace this thing. The wires are now exposed and after less then a year of use. For something that's almost £70 I'd expect it to have a longer lifespan.

    Bad bad design

    • Written by Stephen B from Hull

I bought my Macbook pro 2 years ago. Love the computer but the power adaptor is bad. This has to be the one of the poorest designs that Apple has come up with. In the 2 years I have had my Macbook the power adaptor cable has broke in the same place every time. I am now about to buy my third cable. This is not good enough Apple. Get your act together and redesign this item!!!!!!

    Useless

    • Written by William K from Beaconsfield

I bought my mac 2 years ago, i've had 3 chargers in that time. All of them have stopped working for apparently the same reason. The bit that connects to the laptop isn't receiving any power. They also constantly get way too hot to have it on my lap. In my honest opinion I would buy a laptop from another brand.

    • Written by Aisling W from Kiltimagh

If I could give less than 1 star I would. Bought my MacBook Pro in June 2010 and my 3rd power adapter has stopped working. It is absolutely disgraceful that I have to purchase yet another one of these horrendously expensive products. I love my MacBook but Apple would really want to improve the quality of these chargers, if the next one breaks I am swearing off Apple for life.

    Poor quality for price

    • Written by Jay M

Apple products are typically very well made - and they should be, since you have to pay premium for them. However, the chargers are an exception; you pay premium, but get some cheap, flimsy wire.

After less than a year, the charger wire, which is noticeably weak material, had started to split. The L shaped head has fallen apart; the magnetic connector came away from the charger. This is through absolutely ordinary use. It seems to me that, as great as the magnetic connector is in theory, it's not attached to a sturdy enough component, which means the strain on the head from simply connecting to and disconnecting from the laptop is too much. This wasn't as much of a problem with the T shaped headed chargers since they detached more easily (safely) and with less stress on the product than the L charger.

Overall, considering you're paying for very basic technology, the quality of the materials should be far better. Extremely disappointed. Apple, either charge far less for these chargers (to reflect the poor quality) or improve the quality so they are worth the price!

    Expensive and low quality

    • Written by Jonathan S from London

My girlfriend's charger is now taped up as after around a year of use the wire has become frayed (search for "macbook charger wire exposed" to see many others with this problem).

This also happened to me several months ago and I was lucky enough that Apple replaced it free of charge but no such luck for my girlfriend. It's unreasonable to expect people to pay £65 for one year's use of a charger. Cheap netbook chargers don't have this problem.
