    Apple usb SuperDrive

Having read the reviews and forked out £79 I was nervous.....but hey I have just transferred my entire cd collection over two hundred discs onto my MacBook Pro without the slightest glitch.......it’s expensive but really excellent .....

    Slow and unreliable

I've had this for a couple of years, and I have several occasions where it wouldn't read the whole of an audio CD. The local Apple store tried other ones from stock with the same result, yet the CDs read fine on my 14 year old Apacer Disk Steno. It is also disappointingly slow. Expensive, waste of money.

    Not the best

I expect Apple to be the best. I bought this product 3 years ago and now conclude that there are much better options. It looks like an Apple product - smart and sleek - but it doesn't work to my expectations. It is very sensitive to the slightest mark on a disc. It refuses to download - and hangs so that the only way to eject is to switch off and restart the drive. It also does the same on play. No amount of cleaning makes any difference. These same discs play well on my other independent equipment (Hifi,DVD/BluRay) drives. When it does work it is ok. Note that it also doesn't do BluRay video.

    Super pleased!

Brought this yesterday, already had the adapter necessary to link up to USB-C. No problems, uploaded 25 CDs straight to iTunes. Okay, expensive I suppose but if it works, I don't mind!

    Very expensive frisbee

Probably the worst Apple product I have ever bought.

Endless problems of disks not being read. Spinning round and round and round and round and round for ages and ages. Then the disks get stuck in the thing and you are like "Oh my" how do I get it out. Do you bang it, open it up, try talking nicely to it....that didn't work.

And NO you can't eject it the usual ways because OSX doesn't recognise that there is even an external DVD drive attached. After hunting the interwebs I found the solution. You have to use the terminal with this command "drutil eject external" Seriously why would you make a product like this!!

Avoid this like the plague. There are plenty of better and more advanced alternatives out there for a fraction of the price!

It doesn't even deserve one star.

    Brilliant

Despite all the poor reviews I read on this page I still looked round - Currys reviews, John Lewis reviews - and bit the bullet buying one. Superb, typical of what we expect from Apple. Yes its expensive you can buy something cheaper but this does what it says on the "Tin"
If you've had a problem bet it's not Apple's fault.

    Very Slow and Outdated

This is very slow and outdated for an Apple product. It is also not possible to eject a disk without going into the laptop software. All in all it is like a piece of Microsoft piece of junk

Outdated.... only has old USB connector

Bought this to use with my new Mac - which only has USB-c ports. the 'Super'Drive is not 'super' - it has an old style USB connector and needs an adapter to use it with the new Mac. If you try to use it with a hub it doesn't power through it and won't work, so I now need another, USB-c to USB adaptor. Come on Apple - surely if you think USB-c is the future, shouldn't your accessories have the same connector? Waste of money.

    Excellent as always

The SuperDrive is as excellent as any other Apple product you would buy. It runs at almost no sound whatsoever and runs very efficiently. Its small form factor means you can place it with ease just about anywhere on your desk with your Mac or even take it with you to plug into your MacBook! Very pleased.

    Rubbish. Again.

I've owned 3 Apple CD/DVD-R drives; in a 2006 MacBook Pro, a 2009 MacBook and a 2012 USB Superdrive. They all failed early in their lives. Apple have the brass neck to charge £79 for this now. The exact same drive was £65 when I bought it in Jan 2013. If you want to know, while trying to burn a DVD using Toast Titanium 10 I got an error message basically saying the drive didn't like the media. Not the first time that has happened but the experience melted my unSuperdrive. It will read CDs but not DVDs and none of the fixes out there (and I've searched) make any difference. The hardware is broken. From doing something it's supposed to do. Apple, why don't you put this rubbish out of its misery like you did with the optical drive in the laptop range? Sometimes no solution is better than a lousy one.

    Very Temperamental, not super!

I purchased one to be used with my iMac, primarily to rip & burn cd's. It has proven to be very temperamental in use - sometimes will begin to rip tracks ok then suddenly decides to stop/freeze or whatever, just keeps humming away with no progress being made. Also becomes very difficult to eject the disc from iTunes and end up having to force quit iTunes before ejecting the disc with the keyboard key. Very frustrating piece of kit, although on the odd occasion it does work perfectly! Wouldn't recommend for the price!

Used it once, now doesn't wotk

Bought the 'superdrive' with my iMac a couple of years back, no longer works. Connect it to my iMac via a working USB, nothing. Doesn't show up as a drive, won't accept discs, totally useless. Looking online it seems the only advice is 'Buy another one. Super it isn't.

Awful - I wish I had listening to these reviews before purchasing.

I would give this no stars if it would let me. Expensive and does not work. I would like to rip my CD collection to my iTunes library (don't get me started on that one either) if it's alright with you, apple. This CD player will not rip or even play CDs without spitting them out half way through, ripping half a track and moving on, audio glitches - do I need to go on? There's plenty of other CD / DVD drives out there for half the price that do the job.

    Nothing 'super' about it...

I bought the superdrive as an essential piece of kit to accompany my Macbook pro (2015 model) as it did not have a built-in drive. The main reason I decided to pay the premium, the best part of £80, was the fact it was an Apple product - a brand I was familiar with and so far had not let me down. Unfortunately this drive is very temperamental, sometimes I have to load a CD into the drive multiple times before it works at all. Sometimes it takes 2 hours to import a single CD and even this is not done correctly as only 30 seconds of the CD gets imported.

Apple has moved away from built-in drives and my Macbook pro is amazing. However as apple moves away from USB slots ect., and we have to buy these add ons I expect them to at least work. My confidence in the brand and the products has been severely knocked and its hard to to feel cheated out of so much money.

I was lured in by the brand and the attractive design but thats all this have to offer, my advice would be to buy a cheaper drive that actually works and spend the rest of the money saved on more CD's!
