  • Overview

Now in a Space Gray finish. Magic Trackpad 2 is rechargeable with a built-in battery and brings Force Touch to the desktop for the first time. Four force sensors underneath the trackpad surface allow you to click anywhere, and detect subtle differences in the amount of pressure you apply, bringing increased functionality to your fingertips and enabling a deeper connection to your content. Magic Trackpad 2 also features an edge-to-edge glass surface area that is nearly 30 percent larger than the previous trackpad. This design, along with a lower profile, makes scrolling and swiping through your favorite content more productive and comfortable than ever.

Magic Trackpad 2 pairs automatically with your Mac, so you can get to work right away. And the battery will power your Magic Trackpad 2 for about a month or more before needing a recharge.

It's a good size, too — plenty of space to work with on the trackpad, but it doesn't take up too much space on my desk. I've been using it for about three months. Unfortunately, the bluetooth connection has gotten very spotty in the last month or so (even with literally nothing but 18 inches of air between the trackpad and the computer). Typically, when my 2018 iMac wakes from sleep, the Apple bluetooth keyboard connects but this trackpad does not — despite being charged and switched on. The bluetooth utility searches and searches, eventually finds the trackpad, but fails to connect for reasons that are not clear. Sometimes, it drops the bluetooth connection to the keyboard, but that is less frequent and it seems to pick that up again fairly quickly. I think this problem is linked to a software update, so hopefully Apple will fix it in the future. Most of the time, I have to plug in the trackpad to use it at all, which is disappointing for a product that is supposed to be wireless. On balance, then, I'd say it's way overpriced for a wired device. Don't buy it until Apple fixes its bluetooth connectivity problems.

      Love the Magic Trackpad!!!!

I will never go back to a mouse. I use Apple pro apps a lot (FCPX, Motion, LPX, Compressor) and love working with the Magic Trackpad 2 with these. Speed, accu I will never go back to a mouse. EVERYTHING REALLY DOES Just Work (REALLY!)

I recommend getting one of the trays to hold the BT keyboard and trackpad together. It makes it much more convenient to use. Also, a couple of things that people might not know: (1) Not ALL the Preferences of the trackpad are under "Trackpad". Some are under "Accessibility", such as how to perform drags. I like the three-finger drag (so I changed the Mission Control type gestures to FOUR fingers up, down, left, and right, to allow this setting). (2) Make sure you go through ALL the Bluetooth settings, especially "Setting up a BT Trackpad". And, if you change the computer name, make sure you reboot afterwards. MOST IMPORTANTLY, to allow waking up from sleep using your BT devices, set "ALLOW BT DEVICES to WAKE this computer to 'ON'." I've NEVER had BT problems with the Apple Trackpad, on any that I've used (I passed on my prior one to my roommate), or on my new one (in Space Grey). I can't imagine using any Mac without it, being able to control everything from my keyboard and trackpad tray by only having to move my fingers a few inches. Really, I have NO idea what these reviewers are doing wrong (I'm guessing incorrect settings). But, with 100% perfectly working trackpads (about 3 or 4), in the past 10-20 years, I'm leaning toward "User Error" (No Offense Intended ;-). Especially now, with "force touch" and all the various gestures, the Apple Trackpad is a "must have" for me (a retired person, with NO relationship to Apple).

Bluetooth connection problems are no joke, they are frustrating!

Bought a Magic Trackpad 2 for use with one of my Apple iMac computers in my audio recording studio. Since day-one I have had problems with the bluetooth connect Bought a Magic Trackpad 2 for use with one of my Apple iMac computers in my audio recording studio. Since day-one I have had problems with the bluetooth connection after waking the computer from Sleep mode. Bluetooth status says connected but it does not function. If I switch the Trackpad off, from the switch on the back, it shows the 'Trackpad Disconnected' pop-up dialogue box on the screen for a few seconds as it normally should; and the Bluetooth Status Connection Menu says disconnected as it should. After waiting 10 seconds or so, then turning the switch back on, it does not re-connect restoring full functionality. I have to go into the Bluetooth Status Connection menu to re-connect the Trackpad with the computer. This is very unhandy because I do many other things around the studio during the day and the computer is put in Sleep mode many times a day. This first Trackpad 2 was just for testing with one of the studio computers using D.A.W. apps. With these test results I won't be buying others for the rest of the studio. Especially after reading many reviews by others having bluetooth connection problems that, apparently, have not been addressed by Apple.

      Best Product Ever!!!

The gestures and force touch mak I have been using this trackpad for work and video editing. It puts little stress on my hand and takes up little to no space... The gestures and force touch makes things so convenient... The control is so great that even gaming is possible on the trackpad... I’m never ever going back to a mouse... However, it does have some Bluetooth issues but it could be easily solved by connecting and disconnecting it to the computer via the lightning cable.... If the Bluetooth problem persists, just leave the trackpad connected to the computer via a lightning cable.... It is still an incredible product and one of the best or the best trackpad you could buy...
