Apple TV does not require an iMac. Apple TV is a small box that connects to the TV and then internet so you can stream TV shows, Movies and Videos. It includes services like Netflix and Hulu that have a fee and others like YouTube that don't. The $99 you pay up front for the little box is all you need. If you have an iMac you can use AirPlay to show the screen of your iMac on your TV. Great way to show off pictures for a party.
