Bugs, errors and poor customer service.

The first problem I had was error messages after each backup saying that x number of files could not be copied (The software interface is very basic so there's no clear way of telling which files these are). I contacted support who suggested formatting the drive and starting again. I did this, waited 2 days for the 5TB drive to backup again. Then after a few more successful backups the problem returned. I tried the whole process once more with the same result, and after a few more times the backup will not even start. The last I have heard from their email-only customer support is that they are "trying to solve my problem".... That was over 6 months ago, and I have been trying to contact them repeatedly since then, with no reply whatsoever. This is definirely one to avoid.

    Lost all the data

When I was going to backup all my data, it gave me an error and the backup process stopped in the middle. Somehow, it made some of my very valuable data unreadable. Thanks for nothing bros.

Data Backup 4.0 is Very Slow

Data Backup is fine - except it is very slow. It starts out backing up full speed of the drives involved, then after 3 or 10 minutes, it drops to 1/5th full speed! Simply moving the mouse or clicking on anything brings the transfer back to full speed.

I have changed settings in System Preferences to try and fix this - all without any effect.

    Program does not work

I obtained this software with an external drive to create a bootable clone for my iMac. Unfortunately, it created a clone that could not be booted. When I attempted to open the software back up to see what went wrong, it would not open. I uninstalled, reinstalled and tried again. Same thing. So I uninstalled and reinstalled a third time and again found the program would only open immediately after installation, but failed to open every time after that.

I contacted customer support who gave me about a twelve step process to get them screenshots (remember that I cannot open the program), then uninstall and reinstall in a very specific way by manually deleting some files and saving others, and downloading from a different site. Who has time for this nonsense? There are better options out there. I bought a new program that worked as advertised. I will never buy anything from Prosoft again.

BEWARE this does NOTHING for you except steal your money and time!

I don't know where these enthusiastic reviews come from but this is the by far the WORST App I ever had on my MAC and I am working with computers since now 30 years.
Unfortunately, I purchased the program because of the many 5 stars reviews.
What is this software able to do at all?
First the usability is a nightmare! Beware this is the oddest scheme I ever seen.
Did a twelve year old program this?
Just one example the Start Arrow button points BACKWARDS to the left.
Well in Western culture this means BACK and not forward to the next step.
I did first a simple copy all task which worked, well you can do this with drag and drop.
So say \folder1 to external hd drive \root
    Resulted in source\folder1 and external\folder1
Tried a SYNCHRONIZE task on this backup
Say sync \folder1 to hd external\
You would expect that the soft recognizes that there is a folder1 in the root of external already and compares.
Well what it does is that it copies i.e. your HIDDEN TRASH bin into your external drive and all subfolders WITHOUT the folder1 level.
Great job folks! Why did I specify folder1 for sync then??
Next try select folder1 or a subfolder in the external drive as your destination.
SURPRISE the program does not show you any of your subfolder choices in the menue.
This program is a JOKE and not worth A PENNY.

The ice age of backup programs

Slow takes on new meaning. Gave up trying to configure a backup.

    Not dependable.

Noted that not all primary files that had been updated or changed had been captured on the back-up drive. Older file versions remained unchanged resulting in a discrepancy between the primary drive data and back-up drive data. With an incident of a primary hard drive crash along with a subsequent review of the 'back-up' data, it was revealed that the scheduled back-up times simply stopped initiating weeks prior to the crash event. Would not recommend this product because of the above two issues.

    The backup sets would disappear

I have been using "Data Backup 3" for months. Once in a while, I would notice some backup sets (think of them as scripts) missing from the list. I am so tired of re-creating the scripts. I am going back to the application "Backup" designed for .mac (.me) subscribers.

    Just Pitiful!

There was absolutely no QA involved in the development of this APP. I've had nothing but issues. From incomplete backups due to unexplainable errors...to saved backup profiles that magically disappear. The program itself is not intuitive and lacks adequate documentation. I have no idea what backup is good or where some of these originated from. I'm sorry but this is not a professionally developed app. My background: I have over 25 years experience in IT and data management on major systems. This pgm could easily be a high quality app if they wanted it to be. Thanks.

    Bugs, bugs and more bugs

I had very little luck with this app. The backup schedules disappear or become damaged, source and destination volumes/folders disappear and have to be reset every few backups, can't save new scripts most of the time (save script is grayed out), I have to duplicate existing scripts and "save as", can't make "do a full scan" option stick, it would often miss files, often when I tried to re-add a destination after it disappeared it says that the source was already used do I want to read the information? Whether I click yes or no it doesn't add the source, I have to remove the .indeligible (or whatever that's called) using the terminal, then I can re-add the destination. Useless logs on top of that. Really weird GUI and options. After two backup scripts disappeared from the list yesterday I got fed up and I've gone back to Retrospect Express (I wanted a native app and the ability to delete oldest backups). Hopefully Retrospect X will address those. Wasted 60 bucks...
