  • There are two SIM options for connecting your WiFi + Cellular iPad model to a data plan: a physical SIM card or eSIM technology.* (Note: Wi-Fi iPad models cannot connect to cellular networks.)

Physical SIM card: All Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad models have a physical nano-SIM tray that will hold a carrier nano-SIM card (also called 4FF SIM card). Your iPad may have a carrier SIM card already installed if you purchased it from a carrier. If not, you can contact your carrier to obtain an appropriate card for your iPad. Some iPad models also support an Apple SIM card. For more information, go to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203089.

eSIM technology: Newer Wifi + Cellular iPad models include built-in eSIM technology that essentially acts as a digital SIM card. There are a few ways to activate an eSIM on your iPad, including downloading it right on the iPad itself, scanning a QR code, or using an app from a carrier. With eSIM, you can choose cellular data plans from select carriers in the U.S. and in more than 180 countries and regions around the world. For more information on setting up eSIM, go to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203089.

  • Whether you’re making a purchase or not, we’ve made it easy to trade in an eligible device either in an Apple Store or online. Just answer a few questions regarding the brand, model, and condition of your device. We’ll provide an estimated trade-in value or a simple way to recycle it.

If you accept the trade-in estimate online when you purchase a new iPad, we’ll arrange for you to send us your old device. Once we receive it, we’ll inspect it and verify its condition. If everything checks out, we’ll credit your original purchase method and send any remaining balance on an Apple Gift Card via email.

If you accept the trade-in estimate in the store, we’ll give you instant credit toward a purchase on the spot or a gift card you can use anytime.

Regardless of how you choose to trade in, if the condition of your device doesn’t match what you described, a new estimated trade-in value will be provided. You’ll have the option to either accept this revised quote or reject it. If you reject it, your device will be given back to you at no charge.

  • That depends on how you pay for your new iPad.

If you use Apple Card Monthly Installments and include a trade-in, your estimated trade-in credit is instantly applied to the purchase price of your new iPad.* Once we receive your trade-in device and confirm that the condition matches what you described, there’s nothing more you need to do.

If you pay in full, your trade-in value is applied as a credit to your original payment method after we receive your old device and confirm that the condition matches what you described.

In either case, if we provide a revised trade-in value based on the condition of your old device, we’ll work with you to confirm that you still want to move forward with the trade-in.
