Using my cable from my old phone

    • Written by Alejandra C from Bronx

I am not sure why so many people complain about their cable being messed up. Honestly, I think it depends on the person and how they bend their cable when charging. I am personally still using my iPhone X charger for my iPhone XS (have had this charger for almost 2 years).

Only buying a cable for my sister since she always bends them and treats her chargers badly.

Constantly having to replace these wires as they tear and quit functioning often. Better off getting the off brand ones.

    These are not cheap!

    • Written by German C from Mesquite

I keep reading reviews about the cables being cheap and not establishing a good connection on certain devices. I know from experience that is not always the cable that has flaws. I own an SE that I've had for several years, one day it stopped charging out of nowhere, my wife then decided to get me a 6 to help me upgrade, when I got my new phone I wasn't getting cellular signal on it so I took it to apple to find out the problem, turns out they couldn't do anything because she had bought it refurbished at Walmart BUT they did take a look at my SE (the one that had a charging issue to begin with). Guy that helped me out said my SE was fine except it had a massive ball of pocket lint, hair and dust inside the charging port that had been getting lodged in there for years until the point where the cable couldn't do a successful contact with the port, he took a thin metal tool from his pocket and removed all the stuff inside the port, voila, phone was back to normal. I still use the same cable that came with the phone and I know for a fact this phone is at least 4 years old and so is the cable. Guys check your phone's charging port for any pocket lint or excessive accumulation of dust, that might actually be the reason the phone is not being charged and not the cable itself.

    They don't last

    • Written by Felicity P from Southbury

I am constantly buying new cables because they stop working or they become frayed. And they're pricey! Unfortunately, the Apple cables work best with Apple products, but gee whiz, a company like Apple should be able to make a better cable.

    This is the last time

    • Written by Joe L from Brooklyn

I have been trying to backup my data with these cables (about 8 of them) for the past 4 hours and yet it keep breaking connections.

This is the last time I'm using lightning cables to backup my data. If Apple refuse to adapt USB-C for the next generation of iPhone, I will go to Android. Period.

I have about 20 of them through these years. All lasted less than 6 months. Apple must work very hard to ensure these cables to break as easy as possible. If they have Apple care for these cables, I'm pretty sure they will shutdown less than a year.

Had insurance, wouldn't replace the cheapmade to fail charger cable!

    • Written by Joy E from New York

The charger cable blinks on and off along with the lovely melody of ding (off), ding (back on), ding, ding ding! That goes on for 5 minutes every time I plug it in. I have to bend it and move it till it connects and begins charging.
I'd been adjusting the cord and found its sweet spot (before the rep came over) so they said they couldn't replace it and just dismissed me. So the dinging continues until it stops working altogether. Such a low, way to scam an extra $20 off every buyer. They make them to fail so they get a real windfall of the repurchases. Imagine how many replacements they sell!

    Don’t buy

    • Written by Kelli C from Federal Way

I have owned 3 or 4 of these and they always break within the first month. The rubber splits at the point of connection, creating a short every time. Find an off-brand cable because these are cheap AF!

It keeps discharging when I charge

    • Written by Morinsola T from Sabo

I got this charger cord in June and roughly a month into buying it the charger started to malfunction, it keeps discharging when I plugged in especially when I charge with my MacBook, if I had know I would have just gotten the ones off eBay that cost even less, at least I would know it’s my fault but after getting the original from the Apple website here in America ,I regret wasting my $20. Y’all should get it right with these cords. The reason I bought this was cause my old one started to open at the charging point like it was expanding and the plastic couldn’t handle it so it started making lines around each side of the charging point.

    Hot Spot

    • Written by Teresa S from Longview

The Apple charger is the only cable that I have ever had that works correctly attached to my lap top so that I can use the hot spot to access the internet. I’ve used cheaper brands that supposedly have the chip, but there was always some type of problem with the cheaper brands while trying to use the charging cable attached to my lap top. It’s sad that Apple charges so much for a product that is not even durable enough to last more than 6 months with everyday use. I had to give 5 stars for performance, but if I could rate its durability it would have been 1 star.

This charger will not die !!

    • Written by Domenic C from Newtown Square

I got this charger when I purchased my 5c. So, almost 5 years ago! I got a new charger when I got a new phone (two years ago) and was going to use this one as a spare. I ended up putting the old one in my car “temporarily” until I could get another one. However, this charger never stopped working! It has taken a beating for sure but, it’s the best charger I’ve ever had. I recommend it 100%. I won’t buy from anywhere else!

These weak cables are 20 bucks? Seriously? Never buy these. Go for the anker ones. You will find them on amazon. Those are about 5-10 bucks cheaper and the quality is way better.

    Beautifully Designed to FAIL

    • Written by Andrew D from Hampstead

Well done, Apple. You have succeeded in finding another way to make lots of money by poorly making a cable and phone port designed to fail and be intermittent so that people have to buy more cables to replace these shoddily made pieces of junk. I carefully handle all my cables and mindfully plug and unplug to the phone port yet 50% of the time i have to wiggle the cable back and forth to achieve charging status and sometimes it starts charging and then stops. One day the cable is fine and the next day I plug in and nothing happens. It seems about every 6mos I need to replace a charging cable and this is the most basic item that Apple can't seem to design to last. I will never buy another Apple cable again thanks to 3rd party wireless charging.

This cable is different than the same product I ordered last year. It is cheaply made and does not charge consistently. No point in purchasing direct from Apple anymore.
