    Bad design

    It is frustrating that this Smart Keyboard does not offer any cover protection for the back of my new iPad Pro and there is not a case that you can attach to the the iPad at the same time as the Keyboard to remedy the situation. While I like the keyboard, I never find myself getting out my new iPad and instead always reaching for my old iPad in a case because I’m afraid of breaking the new iPad. If there was a case that was compatible with the Smart Keyboard that would be doable but there is not and now the folio Smart Keyboard isn’t even available for the 10.5 in Pro! Ugh come on Apple!!

    Subpar Product, doesn’t last

    I had the same problem as everyone else. First one lasted 3 months before it stopped connecting (accessory not found) but it was replaced under warranty. Second one lasted 5 months and the apple store refused to replace it again. Though they offered me a discount to buy a 3rd one for $135 lol. Definitely take your chances with a third party keyboard. This one works great for 3 months or so, but then youre stuck with a $160 half cover with a useless keyboard. Shame on apple for not doing a total recall with this subpar product.

    I'm on the third keyboard. I had to come back several times to apple store technical assistance to replace 2 keyboards that stopped working. Now the third one has stopped working.

    Very Disappointed!

    I’m a huge apple fan, and I have never been even close to as disappointed with one of their products as I am with the keyboard. I have had it just over a year, and it does not even work anymore! I am a stay-at-home mother that homeschools, so it’s not like it has been taken all over or abused - or even remotely over used! When chatting with tech support it is obvious that I am not the only one with this EXACT issue, but instead of just doing the right thing and sending me a replacement (I’ll GLADLY return this one!) - they say that I need to schedule an appountment and drive me and my 3 kids over an hour away to an apple store for support. And since it’s a year old, the support means “buy a new one.” My stars! even fitbit had better customer support! For the price of this keyboard, I should NOT have to replace it at barely a year old!

    Unreliable for business use

    I tried to keep the faith, but after trying to keep this keyboard working, I finally had to give up. The keyboard is totally unsuitable for business use. If you don't use your Ipad for more than watching movies, this keyboard will work for you, as a stand. As a keyboard, not so much. The smart connector interface is highly susceptible to dust and dirt, which makes traveling with the keyboard unreliable as well. I can see from the connectors that they barely make contact, and are woefully off center, which is probably the reason why the keyboard is so unreliable. In the past, Apple recognized this flawed design and extended the warranty for 3 years. However, that is no longer the case. I will have to purchase a more suitable keyboard from someone else, I like purchasing Apple products, because I have always liked the quality, but they really missed the mark on this keyboard. I expected more from Apple, especially for the price.

    Works great, until it doesn't

    I loved the simplicity and thin form factor of the keyboard. My only complaint out of the box is that it does not protect the back of the iPad, but that's the tradeoff for the thin form factor. I found the keyboard easy to type on, and did not have a single complaint until just after a year of ownership...then it intermittently started losing connection to the iPad. At first, this was solved by disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard...then after 18 months it stopped working entirely. The apple store confirmed that it's DOA, and offered to sell me a new one since it's out of warranty.

    I can deal with the premium Apple price tag, as it typically comes with a premium product...but that is not the case here. This is a disposable product. If you can live with purchasing a new unit annually, this is the keyboard for you.

    It's not for me - I expect more from Apple products.

    It will stop working!!!

    Instead of using the smart keyboard to write this review, I am using the on screen keyboard (frustrating). This keyboard is the second replacement I have received and was told I could not receive another replacement if this one broke. The first lasted a week, this one lasted more than a year. I am the kind of guy that typically only buys apple accessories, hopeful that the product performance relative to the cost are excellent. For example, I own no third party chargers or cables, hoping that will extend the product life. But back to the keyboard, it has been a terrible experience. It will stop working for you, and you will have to replace it. It’s very disappointing...

    No recall for 10.5” smart keyboard. Very dissatisfied!

    The smart keyboard as an expensive purchase and it started to fail almost exactly after 1 year and completely failed by 14 months. Accessory not supported, terrible battery life. This keyboard is now a really expensive piece of nonfunctioning cleverness.. Seeing the other complaints on here I think Apple should wake up if they want to keep customers happy. We pay for quality not obsolescence and disposable tech.

    Disappointing Product

    Like many others, my smart keyboard has become unresponsive when connected to my iPad Pro 10.5. The keyboard became unresponsive after only 18 months of intermittent use. I expect more out of my Apple products particularly given the price paid for this accessory. A very disappointing customer experience.

    Don't Buy!

    I got two Smart Keyboards. One for my iPad Pro 12" first generation and the other to my iPad Pro 10.5". Both failed.
    The 12" Smart Keyboard has been changed after a recall program from Apple. The 10.5" Keyboard starts fail this month, after 30 days from warranty expired.
    It's a expensive accessory for use for only 1 year.
    Don't recommend!

    It will break within 150 Days

    I’ve had 3 of these, each treated with great care. Within 100-150 days it will simply stop working reliably. The iPad will stop registering it and say “Accessory Not Compatible”.

    Apple will neither fix it nor offer to replace it.

    The Smart Keyboard Does Not Live Up To It's name

    Like so many others, I bought the Smart Keyboard for my iPad Pro several years ago and it began to malfunction after approximately one year. Subsequently, I have no ability to type and I receive a constant annoying message telling me the keyboard is not attached properly. I know I've spent upwards of $10,000.00 over the past ten years on Apple computers, iPhones and iPads; nevertheless, a sales person at the Apple Store told me they cannot (will not?) address the problem or give me a refund without the original box. (Honestly, if we all kept our original boxes for Apple products, then we would make good contestants for the "Hoarders" TV series!) Shame on Apple for this kind of treatment of loyal customers who not only use their products, but recommend them to so many PC disciples.

    Terrible - doesn't work and not worth the money

    I purchased two of these keyboards for my kids for school. My son said that his keyboard started malfunctioning after about a month and my daughter said that hers stopped working after about three months. They would have to un-attach their iPads and then reattach it for their iPads to register that a keyboard was there (it would not type). Now, a year and a half later, both their keyboards don't work at all. No matter how many times they try reattaching the keyboard, 9/10 times it doesn't register. My daughter said that this has also happened for most of her friends, so it's not just their iPad/keyboard, it's everyone. I am extremely disappointed. For $160, I would expect it to be higher quality and it to last longer. Additionally, I had to buy a separate case for their iPads because this doesn't protect the back. Normally, I love Apple products, but this one has disappointed me.

    Doesn’t last

    Great product while it was working. I take very good care of my devices and my case doesn’t even have a scuff. However, after about 10 months the keyboard stopped connecting rendomly and had to disconnect and reboot to get it to work. Right after the 1 year mark, doesn’t work at all. Called Apple and the only response is sorry but there is no5ing they can do. Seems to be a wide spread problem, and they addressed with the 9.7 and 12 sizes, but those with the 10.5 are Just left with a $160 Smart Cover. Very disappointing for Apple product.

    I love my 10.5” iPad Pro. I’ve had an iPad since the original was released in 2010. I bought the Smart Keyboard because I found I was typing to fast and too long for a screen keyboard. But ... the purchase has been disappointing. Sometimes after typing several paragraphs ALL my text will be randomly deleted. The SHIFT key has a mind of it’s own. The space bar often ignores me. The lack of an ESC key means all remote UNIX/Linux terminal software for iOS has an ESC simulation feature.

    Not recommended!

    From Great to Terrible in 14 months

    Just read many reviews and have to echo the words and sentiments of those who found it to be a great keyboard for a short period of time. The magnets do not connect and I find myself going back and forth between the iPad screen keyboard and the detachable screen and cover. I have tried cleaning the magnets, taking the iPad out and replacing very carefully - nothing works. Lately it has begun skipping and advancing several lines, or getting hung up on a key and continually typing it on the screen until I have to get out of whatever screen I am in. I like to work or play games on my iPad in bed late at night sometimes, but now it will only connect with the keyboard if it is on a hard space and completely stationary. I love the fact that I do not have to recharge it, and it is light in weight. Oh, one other thing is the sound of the keys when I tap on them. If one has fingernails it makes a loud, clicking noise that is distracting.

    Was hoping they’d come out with something better, but alas...

    Not built to last

    This keyboard could be great - but there are a ton of examples where it stopped working after less than a year. I’m not a heavy user and this keyboard stopped working several months after I purchased it with my new iPad Pro. I spent a ton of time trying everything I could to fix it, but ultimately I was left with a $160 bulky and non-functional cover. After hearing that Apple is offering an extended 3 year repair program, I waited an hour at the Genius Bar (originally quoted 10 minutes) for the tech to spend 30 seconds looking up the serial number and tell me that it is not covered under the repair program. Apparently Apple extended the warranty for all but the 10.5 size keyboard - even thought the 10.5 keyboard is exhibiting the same issues. The tech said I could buy a replacement at a “reduced cost” of $135. Frankly, while I really liked the keyboard, I could not see paying the exceptionally high price tag a second time for a product that potentially wouldn’t even last a year.

    I am a long time Apple customer and I pay the premium for Apple products due to their reputation for high quality. I’m extremely disappointed in the quality and support I received.
