  • “SIM-free” means your iPhone doesn’t ship with a carrier nano-SIM. The SIM-free iPhone sold on apple.com and at the Apple Store is unlocked. That means you can use a nano-SIM or eSIM from any carrier that provides service for iPhone.*

  • eSIM technology allows you to add a cellular plan to your iPhone without using a nano-SIM card. Activating an eSIM will require scanning a valid QR code distributed by a wireless carrier, or signing up for a participating plan through a wireless carrier app.*

  • The iPhone models for AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon are the same. If you choose to pay with an AT&T Installment plan, your iPhone will be locked to the carrier. For details on network support, please see https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204039.
  • If you completed the steps to authorize activation with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon when you purchased your new iPhone online, it will arrive ready to use. Just turn it on and follow the onscreen instructions to set it up and activate with the carrier. If you chose to skip carrier authorization at the time of purchase, you’ll need to contact your carrier or visit an Apple Store to enable cellular services.

    You can also set up your iPhone without a nano-SIM using Wi-Fi. You will need an active nano-SIM to enable cellular services. If you selected the SIM-free iPhone, you’ll need to insert your own nano-SIM card or obtain one from the supported carrier of your choice and activate it in order to use cellular services on your iPhone. If Sprint is your carrier, you’ll need to get a new nano-SIM card in order to activate your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro.

  • All iPhone models sold on apple.com and at the Apple Store are unlocked, which means they aren’t tied to a single carrier, and you can use a SIM from the carrier of your choosing. The exception is when you buy an iPhone with an AT&T Installment Plan. It will be locked to AT&T as the carrier and will only work on the AT&T network for the term of your Installment Plan agreement.

  • You can either pay for your new iPhone in full or pay monthly with Apple Card Monthly Installments, carrier financing, Apple iPhone Payments, or the iPhone Upgrade Program. If you choose an Apple monthly payment option, your carrier service plan will be charged separately. Just choose the option that works for you.

  • With Apple Card Monthly Installments, you pay for iPhone over time and interest-free with Apple Card, and you’ll receive 3% Daily Cash back up front. The cost of your iPhone is spread over 24 months. You can add a trade-in to make your payments even lower.

    To purchase with Apple Card Monthly Installments, select it as your monthly payment method when you buy your new iPhone.

  • The Apple Trade In program makes it easy to trade in an eligible smartphone. Just answer a few questions regarding model and condition and we will provide an estimated trade-in value* or a simple way to recycle it.

    If you buy online and choose to pay with Apple Card Monthly Installments or Apple iPhone Payments, we’ll instantly apply your estimated trade-in value to the purchase of your new iPhone. Then we’ll arrange for you to mail us your eligible smartphone. Once we receive it, we’ll inspect it and verify its condition. If the condition matches what you described, there’s nothing more you need to do. If the condition doesn’t match, a new trade-in value will be provided. You’ll have the option to either accept this revised value or reject it. We’ll work with you to confirm that you still want to move forward with the trade-in. If you pay in full, your trade-in value is applied as a refund to your original payment method. This happens once we receive your eligible smartphone and confirm that the condition matches what you described, and after the 14 day return window.

    If you choose the Verizon Special Trade-in Offer, you’ll trade in your eligible device with Apple Trade In. You will receive an instant credit for the stand-alone value of your device and additional bill credits are on your carrier’s monthly installment bill, which will begin within 1–2 billing cycles after you activate your new iPhone.

  • If you accept a trade-in estimate at an Apple Store, we’ll give you instant credit toward your iPhone purchase. And if you choose to recycle your smartphone, we’ll either take care of it at the store or provide a prepaid shipping label so you can send your device to our accredited recycling partner.
  • Generally it takes 2–3 weeks. But the sooner you send us your device, the sooner we can verify its condition and process your trade-in.

    Recycling a device is much faster. When we email you a prepaid shipping label, just send your device to our recycling partner.

  • Start by checking your upgrade status to see if you’re eligible for a new iPhone. If you are, you can either proceed with your upgrade online or visit an Apple Store and chat with a Specialist. As long as you’ve made the equivalent of at least 12 payments, and have owned your device for a minimum of six months, you are eligible to upgrade. If you have to pay an additional amount to meet your 12 payments, you can do it when you upgrade.

  • In most cases, if you purchase an iPhone on apple.com or at an Apple Store, you can activate it later. However, certain special offers or discounts may require that you authorize activation with your carrier at the time of purchase.
  • All iPhone models are world phones, so you can use them almost anywhere. You can roam internationally in over 200 countries or regions around the world. If you financed your iPhone with your wireless carrier, contact them to verify that you can roam internationally.

    Availability of 5G and LTE data varies in some countries or regions and depends on carrier support for certain 5G and LTE radio frequencies. Contact your wireless carrier for more information regarding international roaming policies and rates.
