Can I use 85 w magsafe power extension cord with my newer 60w power adapter?

I have the extension cord that wen with my 85 w power adapter on my older macbook pro (which i don't have).
I now have macbook pro 15 retina display . Can the extension cord also be used with the 60 watt power adapter also?
It does fit in the back of the adapter and it is an extension cord but I want to be safe.

    Yes, as far as I've checked and tested: using the old extension cord from a busted magsafe on the new retina pro magsafe in office and the new one at home, so I don't drag the extension cord with me everytime along with the magsafe adapter brick. It's just a basic electric cord that works with all Apple power adapter bricks, even the iPad ones. You can even check it has the same specs written on the cable.

    To be perfectly clear, we are talking about just the extension electrical cord from the outlet to the magsafe brick, and not the magsafe adapter itself.
