    Not Durable

Unfortunately, I've had to buy several chargers for my macbook pro. The cable is weak, and the plastic sheath breaks down fast, revealing the inner shielding. The chargers should last at least as long as the computer lasts! Seeing as so many people have this issue, apple should replace them for customers having these issues!

    Unsafe, expensive, and unreliable

This charger is not durable or practical. The fact that I have to reinsert it every time I make any sort of movement towards my laptop is absurd. In addition to its faulty design and cheap material, the outer lining of the chord wore away in such a short amount of time. I understand that things will not last forever but I have kept decent care of this charger and still with the slightest bend of the cord it ended up ripping the outer layer. Finally, the most concerning aspect of this review is that because the outer lining of the chord ripped, the internal wiring was exposed. When moving the charger a certain way these wires rubbed up on one another creating a spark. If I did not realize this spark and it was near flammable material then it would have started a fire and who knows what kind of damage it would have caused. Apple, the least you can do is develop a stronger and safer option. You have thought of virtually everything now make some changes to this.

Why change a perfectly good design?

The former design was quite good and impressive compared to a PC. Why change a perfectly good design? It irritates me that I now have 2 types of power adapters; one for my old mac and one for the new, and I am at the mercy of Apple. Never seen so many 1-star reviews.

    Apple Should Be Ashamed!

After many years of owning PC's, I finally paid the "big bucks" and bought my wife a MacBook Pro in October of 2015. The computer itself is very nice - extremely pricey, but well made, fast and very functional. Unfortunately the Magsafe 2 Power Adapter that is a very necessary part of the computer is absolutely horrible. While the computer itself is made of metal, the power adapter is made of plastic with very fragile cords. There are hundreds of reviews of the cords breaking or fraying under "normal" use. And then there is the problem of the extreme heat put out by the power adapter - which may contribute to the breakdown of the output cord. After only a few weeks of use, our power adapter quit working. I would have sent it back under warranty, but it looked like one of the cats had been chewing on the cord. Okay, the cat must have shorted it, so I ordered a new one. We live 130 miles from the nearest Apple Store so we can't just run down and pick up a new power adapter. After the new adapter arrived we were very careful to keep it away from the cats, well ventilated and no undue stress the cords. The new adapter lasted exactly two weeks and then just quit working. Wow! All of a sudden we wondered if the cats really were the cause of the first adapter's failure? We are now on our third power adapter in less than four months (the computer has been unusable for almost three weeks while we waited for new adapters to arrive) and I've ordered a fourth adapter as a backup - anticipating the next failure!

Having owned a dozen or so PC's over the years, we have NEVER had a power supply fail on any PC laptop regardless of the brand and in some cases the cats chewed on those cords as well! If we had known the power adapter was this fragile we never would have bought the MacBook. Apple should be ashamed to have such a bad power supply for their very expensive and otherwise decent computer. Because of these problems, we do not recommend this power supply and we do not recommend the MacBook Pro computer. Wake UP Apple (!) and come out with a replacement power supply worthy of your computer!

    Worst ever Magsafe 2

What a pile of junk this connector is! It won't stay plugged in - if you look at it sideways it falls off... A who was the brilliant designer that came up with the "T" concept? Obviously this was never actually tested. So sad.

    Another Charger

I bought my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2013) on September 2013, the original charger lasted exactly 1 year, the second one lasted 2 and a half year and now I'm buying the third one.

Can I give this adapter 0 star ?

please change the product name to Garbage Adapter to match its quality.
The rubber coating next to the mag connector fell off less than 1 year with moderate use.
My old 2009 MBP's power adapter doesn't have the same issue after so many years of usage.
Is it too hard for Apple to "maintain" old quality standard.

    Bad material

I had several iPhone's chargers with the cords broken after few months. Now, the same thing happened with my MacBook Pro charger. The cord had broken and I'll will have to buy a new one after using it not too much and being sure that I'll have to replace it after few months again...
Complaining at the store is not worth because you're told that you did not take care of it. I can say that I have a special case for all my chargers but it's not enough.
I love Apple's products but the company must improve the quality of the chargers.
Hope to be helped by the company.

Great charger, but falls apart quickly

I've owned three of these, and each have torn at spot where the thin cord meets the base. It's a fatal design flaw, that lasts (with how frequently I use it) about 1.5 years each time, then dies suddenly, meaning it's no longer covered under warranty, and I'm expected to spend another $80 to buy a new one.

When this tear happens it creates a potential fire hazard, and can harm the computer due to electrical surges. It's also not obvious that it's going to happen until the moment the rubber coating rips, which seems to happen when the cord burns – not very safe...

    Worst charger ever

After one year of usage it started falling apart. Magnet is barely holding, the cord is total rubbish, to replace it shops charge you $80. The worst part of my MacBook.

    Horrible!

I bough my MacBook pro less than 3 years ago, and I'm going on my 3rd charger. This is unacceptable. They all fray exposing the wires. When you spend nearly $3000 on a computer, you expect more out of it and the accessories that come with it. I've always been a huge apple fan, but lately ALL of your products have been lacking in quality! Very disappointed.

It breaks too easily. This is my third cable in four years.

    Cheap

It is ridiculous how quickly this charger falls apart. I am so furious that I paid so much for my computer and now my charger has come apart. The casing on the outside just fell off and the wires became exposed. The worst part is that I have no options, I have to buy an $80 dollar replacement that will mostly go bad before the year is up. Seriously shoddy product.

    Not Great

I have kept my MacBook and charger in fantastic shape for two years. This charger is most definitely not made to last. With all that I'm paying for this device the company could create a product that can endure some wear throughout time; especially a product that's crucial to the MacBook's performance.

Worst quality charger I have ever owned

On my second Magsafe 2 in two years. It is completely frayed and held together by electrical tape, only charges when plugged in a a very specific angle after many tries. How have a company as big as Apple got something so simple so wrong? And $80 for a replacement. Joke.

I Reinforced My New Adapter with Electrical Tape From Day 1, Still Broke

I, along with anyone who has ever owned a Mac, bitterly hate forking over $100USD very 1.5 years to buy a terrible, sure to break Apple 60W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter. If you just bought a Mac, congratulations you will soon hate your adapter too. Every time I get a new one, usually 2-3x before I'm ready to upgrade my computer (which I do every 2-3 years), I treat it incredibly gingerly, knowing that by massaging it with tender loving care every morning, noon and night, I can sometimes prolong the life of this horrible product by 3-6 months. I've tried not using the wings and coiling it loosely. I've tried reinforcing it with electrical tape at the two fail points (they're the same every time) from the moment I took it out of the box and it STILL broke. There's nothing to be done. Unless you leave it plugged in at your desk and never remove it, your adapter will need to be replaced in under 2 years. Apple, this is the absolute worst.

Power Adapter Is Not Representative of Apple Quality

Everything Apple produces is great except the simple power adapter. I bought PC laptops every 2-3 years for a long time due to various reasons. I was tired of doing this and was very reluctant to spend so much money on an Apple laptop, even though I have been very pleased with my iPhones over the years. When my latest PC laptop failed after only 2 years, I went all in and bought an Apple Mac Pro with Retina display. The laptop is now 3 years old, performs flawlessly every day and looks like I just took it out of the box. However, Apple should be ashamed of their power adapters for their laptops, specifically the sheath that contains the wiring. It is poor quality and tears up within the first year. Since there have been so many complaints, it does look as though Apple is patting themselves on the back in having designed such a poor quality adapter that peopl keep buying year after year because their laptops are such high quality. Shame on you Apple.

    Horrible Quality

I wish I had a choice for purchasing a different cable, because I have had to replace it once a year since I purchased my computer. The cable rips open and warps without being moved. I don't want to risk setting something on fire because the cable rips open and has exposed wires.

    Absolute Garbage

I recently got my first ever Macbook. Overall, extremely disappointed in the whole Apple experience, but this charging cable has got to be the worst thing about it by far. Falls apart before 1 year of use (I work from home by the way, so the most travel with it is from my office to my bedroom or kitchen down the hall). The cheap, ugly white coating on the cord cracks and disintegrates. The "magsafe technology" is flimsy and ineffective. The plug falls out at any small bump, which makes it impossible to charge unless you're sitting at a desk. Before even one year of use, my port has also become uncleanable and unusable. The light comes on, but it will no longer charge. Yep, this is a product that needs to be replaced every single year - and only for $80.00!

Before switching from Windows laptops to Apple, I never had an issue with a charger in my life. They never stopped charging, they didn't physically fall apart...they were totally reliable. Not that hard to do. This POS is possibly the worst charger of all time. I'm so done with Apple.

    Failed within one year

My laptop is just a few months past being 1 year old. I just finished paying the whole thing off, and now the charger has completely failed in the course of one week. I'm furious. The laptop sits on a desk at home all day - it's not like I've been putting it through any extreme abuse, unless simply unplugging and replugging the charger from the laptop occasionally is more than it can take. In the past, my other chargers lasted for years under tougher conditions. I hope my new Macbook Pro isn't as cheaply made as this thing is.
