rubber on the cord rips open

I've had this macbook charger for almost 2.5 years and the rubber on the cord started ripping open in just one year. It's truly disappointing as my old magsafe charger from 2010 is still functional and hasn't ripped open. The quality of the charger declined so far where your older models are outliving the newer ones by almost 5 years is completely outrageous.

I've taped up the opening with electrical tape since it's expensive to replace. Obviously these things are made to fall apart so people will have to keep buying it over and over.

It's these little petty things that keeps me from wanting to support apple products other than the macbook pro.

Wish I could rate it 0 stars..

My MacBook Pro 13-inch with Retina Display (Late 2013) came with this Magsafe 2 power adaptor. Not long after use, it started yellowing, which was no big deal. Then it started fraying at the end that connects to my MacBook, as well as throughout the cable. It is extremely unreliable, and I have to keep checking to see if it is still charging! If a replacement power adaptor cost around $30-$50, it would not be as big of a deal. But, $80! What the heck, Apple! I spend $2000 on a laptop, and then $80 for each power adaptor??

    On 3rd Charger

I am a die-hard Apple junkie, but this charger is terrible. I'm on my third year of ownership of my MacBook Pro with Retina and also on my third charger. Expecting more out of Apple.

    Terrible and expensive

I love my MacBook Pro, best laptop I've had, hands down. However, the chargers are just absolutely worthless. My laptop is only three years old and the original charger lasted about a year, maybe a year and a half, before it suddenly just stopped working. One day it was charging, and the next it did nothing. So I had to replace it. The one I have now is falling apart, there is bare wire in three or four different places. And it isn't like I just throw my charger around or don't take care of it. This wouldn't be so much of an issue if it weren't for the fact that replacing it is so expensive! Now I have to shell out $80 that I don't have to spare if I want to keep using my laptop. It's just ridiculous. No charger should cost this much.

60W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter MB Pro 13 in retina display

Terrible that I am replacing this so soon. Complete turnoff. Had my Toshiba laptop for forever and never had a problem with their cords. Then to be charging $80.00 for them....well, that's a ripoff. Make me start to think I made a big mistake going with Apple, so may go back to PC when I need a new laptop. My cord is almost completely severed and I have been nursing it for a long time, but low and behold, tonight I had work I needed to get done for tomorrow morning and I can't get this thing to charge.....not good! I have not had the laptop that long either!!!

    Too expensive, Poor quality

I despise this charger. The first charger that I owned broke within 5 months of my purchase. After purchasing another charger, I took every precaution to make sure I never kinked or bent the cord. If I ever took the cord with me, I never coiled it around the power brick, as it allows you to do. Even after constantly making sure that the cord never had any strain put on it, it still stopped working after 8 months. Apple definitely needs to redesign all of their chargers or allow third parties to make something that will actually work for over a year.

    Terrible design

Having to buy a new charger for an expensive laptop makes no sense. Broken within a few months and it was hardly transporter. Overheats constantly. But here I am buying another one. No other choice. Apple, please fix this!

    Doesn't last

Not even a year of use and it's already broken. Makes no sense that I need to pay an extra 80 dollars for a replacement. I expected better from an Apple product.

Had to replace it after 2 years

Yesterday I bought a new power adapter because the one that came with my MacBook was broken. In my opinion, that's unacceptable. This adapter cost me €89 and broke down because of poor design. In the Apple Store the salesperson told me that I shouldn't roll up the cable anymore to prevent damage next time. But the thing is, I roll up the cable because of the clips that help you to roll up the cable, so is it my fault or Apple's? I understand you can't make a perfect adapter but please design one next time where you can replace just the cable that goes into your laptop instead of the whole thing.

    INSANE

The fact that macbooks and iphones work so well, and these chargers are literally the worst quality possible for $80, shows that Apple is being SHADY and doing this on purpose. This charger is an embarrassment to Apple. It falls out with minimal movement. My charger is completely FRAYING with dangerous EXPOSED WIRES after less than a year of use (the wires started to be exposed after about 10 months). Note that I NEVER unplug and travel with my charger... It just stays perfectly straight and not bent on my desk. I treat it perfectly. This is completely unacceptable. Must be nice for Apple to have its consumers shell out $80 a year for a new charger to avoid fire hazards.

    Absolute Garbage

Because it sticks straight out from the computer instead of orienting itself alongside the way the MagSafe (not 2) does, the wire is constantly being bent one way or the other. This results in damage to the wire – within a year, the wire has become fully exposed and frayed to the point that it no longer works. Frayed at the other end too.

    Such bad quality

I've had issues with Apple chargers in the past, but this one takes the cake. As someone who is very careful with their charger, I am disappointed in how quickly the coating of mine wore down.

    Horrible

By the looks of the other comments, I'm lucky I got 3 years out of my charger. I took good care of it. Never put strain on it and then one day the plastic around the cord where it connects to the adapter start peeling away exposing the wires. Within the next few weeks, the wires have completely separated and I now have two separate pieces of charger. Best Buy doesn't even sell the MagSafe 2 60W so I had to settle for the 85 W. I hope it's just a fault of the 60W. My sister's had the 85W for 8 years and hers is still in good condition. But really? $80? That's a complete rip off.

I wish I could give it less than one star...

Seriously terrible. I probably won't get another apple laptop simply because the charger is terrible. Broke within a year. Wouldn't replace it. To get it repaired is more than a new one. And there is no other option!! $100 every year for a new charger for a laptop that you pay over $1000 on is ridiculous. So upset!! Apple!! Fix this issue!

    Very bad quality.

After less than a year of use I had to purchase a new MagSafe 2 Power Adapter. Right now, after a 3-year-use of my macbook pro I will be purchasing my third MagSafe.

    Frayed cable?

I have a good fix for my 13" Macbook Pro. Wrap the cable with gaffer's tape. It's working, and everybody notices the tape, because it's black on white. I'm a walking advertisement for Apple, at the library or the university--my battery life is sufficient, but I like to plug in my ugly cord so everybody can see it. There's just no way I'll buy another, aware that it fails and fails and fails--at eighty bucks a pop!

Don't buy a new cord! Don't be ripped-off! Tape it up real ugly and nobody will envy you, and Apple will get exactly the attention they deserve!

    Garbage

I've just hit the one year mark, and my adapter died. I've treated carefully, only traveling with it 3 or 4 times. Other than that it has sat on my desk at home. Total junk. This was my first macbook purchase after 15 years of Sony Vaios, and I've never had a single power supply fail before now.

    Terrible Product

This charger is the bane of my existence. My first charger broke while I was doing research in a foreign country and my Mac battery was also tripping out. I lived in constant fear of losing all of my work if I accidentally moved my computer the slightest and my charger frizzed out. I bought a second charger for $100 which also has frayed to the point of being useless a few weeks over the 12 mo. warranty. Very convenient. Will definitely reconsider buying an apple product in the future.
