Maps. See more of the world.

iPad helps you get from point A to point B. Maybe even points C, D, and E. You’ll always know where you are, where you’re headed, and the best way to get there. And if you don’t have a plan, Maps makes it fun to make one up as you go.

Even the map is an adventure.

Follow your route on a map or satellite image or a hybrid of both. Switch between them for traffic information and street details or just for fun. Tap to zoom, pan, and change your view with your finger — Multi-Touch is great for winding or bumpy roads.

You are here.

iPad knows where you are even if you’re not exactly sure yourself. Using GPS over 3G or known Wi-Fi hotspots and a digital compass, iPad puts you on the map. It shows your location and tells you which way you’re going, so you’re less likely to get lost. Unless, of course, you want to.

That’s over there.

Type in a keyword, and iPad points you toward your points of interest. Ready for a pit stop? Type “hamburgers” and iPad shows you the best burger joints near you. You’ll always find your bearings. And coffee, a decent-star hotel, or a restroom.

Here’s where you turn.

When you need directions, just ask iPad. Type in an address and choose how you’re traveling — by car, public transit, or foot — and iPad shows you the best way to go from wherever you are. See a list of turn-by-turn directions or a highlighted map route with estimated travel time. You can also mark specific locations and find the best route between them. So you’ll be finding your own way right and left.

Take the road less traveled.

With a little planning, you won’t catch yourself in traffic. Maps shows you live traffic information, indicating average speeds along your route in easy-to-read green, red, and yellow highlights. (Always go with green.)

Show them where to go.

Find the best route to your house and email it to a friend. Find the perfect sushi spot and bookmark it for later — or add it to your contacts list. If it’s good enough to share, tweet your location without leaving Maps. The built-in apps on iPad work together, along with the digital compass. So you can keep track of everything in your world and keep yourself on track.

Door-to-door view.

Street view shows you where you’re going before you arrive, so you’ll recognize it when you get there. Tap to see a street-level image of where you’re headed, along with driving or walking directions. Zoom in on the image and it’s like you’re right in front of it. Zoom out to explore the neighborhood. And zoom way, way out to visit the Colosseum, a street in Paris, or Stonehenge.
