Apple Unveils More Powerful and Easier-to-Use HomePage iTool
Users Can Easily Create Their Own Personal Websites with No Programming
MACWORLD EXPO, NEW YORK—July 19, 2000—Apple® today unveiled a more powerful and easier-to-use HomePage, which lets users almost instantly create their own personal website with no programming. The new HomePage, one of Apple’s four Internet iTools available free of charge for Mac® users at www.apple.com, features an even simpler user interface, allows greater personalization of pages with more design templates, includes a rich image library, and enables sharing files with friends and family over the Internet, regardless of computing platform.
“Apple’s new HomePage web tool is so easy to use that anyone can create their own professional-looking website within minutes for free, even first time web surfers,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “New professionally designed templates and innovative drag-and-drop editing make HomePage the easiest and best way to create an online photo album, post a resume or share an iMovie with your family and friends.”
HomePage’s new features include:- A more intuitive user interface featuring Mac® OS X-like design elements;
- Even more templates for designing web pages featuring personalized photo albums, movie theaters, family newsletters, resumes and more;
- A rich image library offering hundreds of high-resolution, premium quality images to decorate and personalize a web page;
- Enhanced editing capabilities for “drag and drop” organization of photo albums, and “single click” text editing within a web page; and
- A new file sharing template for publishing the contents of an iDisk Public Folder to the web, giving all Internet users access to the files saved there.
In addition, iDisk performance has been increased by as much as three times for most users, and Apple is now offering up to 400MB additional iDisk storage on an annual subscription basis. All iTools users automatically get 20MB of free personal Internet-based storage hosted by Apple’s Internet servers.
iTools are a new category of Internet services that take advantage of Apple’s unique ability to tightly integrate Internet services with the Mac OS. Apple’s four iTools include: HomePage; iDisk; Mac.com, a free email service featuring an exclusive address on the Internet; and KidSafe, a breakthrough way to protect children on the Internet which now features more than 90,000 approved sites, with 10,000 added monthly.
Pricing and Availability
Apple’s iTools are available at www.apple.com and are free to all Mac users running Mac OS 9. Additional iDisk Internet storage is available for purchase on an annual subscription basis, with 50MB of additional storage for $50 (US); 100MB for $100 (US); 200MB for $200 (US); and 400MB for $400 (US).
