Recycling Apple products is easy and free.

We’ll make sure your preloved Apple devices and accessories are recycled responsibly or even given a chance to be used again. We also accept comparable devices from other manufacturers, small electronics, lightbulbs, and all portable batteries—no purchase required.

Can I recycle an old device?

You can recycle any Apple device, comparable devices from other manufacturers, small electronics, lightbulbs, batteries, cables, cases, displays, packaging, and more with Apple. When we receive your device, it will be thoroughly inspected and assessed for reuse or recycling.

How do I prepare my device for recycling?

Before you send us your device by mail or drop it off at a collection point, make sure you have backed up your data. After saving your data, remove any personal data from the device you wish to recycle. You will no longer have access to the device after recycling it with Apple.

If you are sending your old device by mail, please note:

Devices that contain batteries should be packed in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices, which typically include the guidelines below:

  • Do not ship loose batteries.
  • Discharge the unit to less than 30%.
  • Do not ship electronics that are disassembled into parts.
  • Do not ship electronics with swollen, damaged, or defective batteries.
  • For whole units, surround the product with at least 2.5 inches of suitable filler material, such as recycled or reused packaging, before placing it inside a corrugated box.
  • Ship only one device per box.

    Apple will recycle all portable batteries.     What happens to my personal information after I send in my device?

    Your personal information will be completely wiped from your device, so make sure to back up your data before you send it in.

    What if I can‘t print my shipping label or Find My shipping instructions?

    Contact our trade-in partner via the email or phone number in your confirmation e-mail.

    How do I turn off Find My iPhone, Find My iPad, or any other Apple device from my account?

    To turn off Find My iPhone or Find My iPad on your device:

    1. Tap Settings.
    2. Tap Apple Account, then tap iCloud.
    3. Turn off Find My iPhone or Find My iPad.

    Can I dispose of electronics and batteries with household waste?

    To remind you that electronic devices and batteries can be recycled, they are marked with a crossed-out wheelie bin symbol. Please do not dispose of Apple devices, electronics, or batteries in your household waste. Electronic and battery waste must be collected and recycled separately from household waste. This is in line with the EU Waste of Electric and Electronic Equipment Directive and Battery and Battery Waste Regulation.

    Can Apple return the device to me once it has been submitted for recycling?

    Once the device has been handed over either in the store or online, recycling partners cannot guarantee that the device can be returned to you. By participating in the program, you relinquish all rights to it.
