You know where you are, where you’re headed, how to get there and where to get coffee. You make lots of stops along the way, but it’s all part of the plan. Because you’re out there with iPhone 4S. And nothing holds you back. Not even traffic.
Find yourself.
Say you’re in an unfamiliar neighbourhood looking for a nearby restaurant. With iPhone, you can easily find where you are on the map and figure out how to get there. iPhone pinpoints your location quickly and accurately using a combination of GPS, Wi-Fi and cellular towers. As you move, iPhone updates your location automatically. And when you arrive, drop a pin to mark exactly where you are and share it with others via email, iMessage or MMS. Or tweet your location without leaving Maps.
Search for a location.
You need a shot of espresso. Just type “coffee” in the search field and iPhone shows you exactly where to go. Searching works with specific addresses and business names, too. When you find what you’re looking for, tap the pin to bring up more information, such as phone numbers, web addresses and more.
Change your view. See traffic.
Maps look amazingly crisp and detailed on the high-resolution Retina display. You can switch between map view, satellite view and hybrid view — even see a particular address in street view.1 Double-tap or pinch to zoom in and out. Maps also shows you live traffic information, indicating traffic speed along your route in easy-to-read green, yellow and red highlights.
How to get from here to there.
With iPhone, you can see a list of turn-by-turn directions. Or follow a highlighted map route and track your progress with GPS. You can see how to get there if you’re walking, driving or taking public transit. iPhone even shows you what time the next train or bus leaves.
Know where you are.
And which way you’re looking.
The Compass app works with the built-in digital compass to tell you which direction your iPhone is facing. And in the Maps app, the compass rotates the onscreen map to match the direction you’re facing.2
