I would recommend a mac book pro non retina with a 256 GB SSD and 8 GB of memory. Note you need to order it from the apple online store in order to get these specs.

Most of the Mac laptops require an external superdrive to play DVDs. I have this an do not have any problems with it other than to have an extra "device" that clogs up my desk area. But if you need a laptop with a built in superdrive for your DVDs, it appears that your only option now would be to get the 13" MacBook Pro without retina display. Another option may be to look for a refurbished MacBook, you would still be limited to the 13" MacBook Pro, but at least it would be a bit cheaper, but still a great laptop.
