Can you connect the Apple composite AV cable from an I pod touch to a TV to watch BBC I player on the TV?

I have a 2nd Gen iPod Touch and have just (yesterday) purchased the Composite AV Cable, purchased specifically for that exact same reason.
BBC iPlayer via safari itself doesn't display upon the external screen,
HOWEVER once iPlayer opens up the movie window itself, that does indeed get presented onto the TV screen.
I would suggest that where possible the component video cable is likely to provide slightly sharper images upon the TV screen itself, however, composite option possibly provides connectivity to a wider choice of older TV's.
