Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit

  • Overview

    With the iPad Camera Connection Kit, it's incredibly easy to download photos and videos from your digital camera to your iPad so you can view them on the gorgeous iPad display and share them with family and friends.

    The kit includes two connectors, each with a different interface:

    • The Camera Connector features a USB interface. Just plug it into the dock connector port on your iPad, then attach your digital camera or iPhone using a USB cable (not included). iPhone 3G is not supported.
    • Use the SD Card Reader to import photos and videos directly from your camera's SD card. Connect it to your iPad, then insert your digital camera's SD card into the slot.

    After you make the connection, your iPad automatically opens the Photos app, which lets you choose which photos and videos to import, then organises them into albums. When you sync iPad to your PC or Mac, the photos and videos on your iPad are added to your computer's photo library.

      The USB will work with many things, not just a camera!

      Things that I found out that you can plug in to the USB connection are USB headphones and USB headsets, USB keyboards and probably more things. If you buy the package, it comes with two different products, one for a USB connection, and another for an SD card. Also, you can plug any iPhone to the USB port and get your photos off of the iPhone so you can view them on your iPad! This is a very nice product and nothing I would change. If you email the photos with the Mail app on the iPad, they are in 2048x1536 resolution rather than the iPhone's 800x600 emailed resolution. One last thing, once you connect to your Mac, iPhoto brings in full resolution images with EXIF information intact. Great job Apple! The iPad now has a USB port!

When connected an application automatically loads up displaying thumbs of images that are available on the camera or iPhone to download. You can then select what you want to copy over. Images are then synced with your PC or Mac is required. The next connector is almost the same but instead of connecting the camera direct to the iPad it features an SD card slot allowing images to be read directly from the memory card containing pictures. The same app (Photos) is opened up and the same interface.

      A bad joke

      The recent upgrade to iOS 4.2 renders the camera connection kit useless. The maximum USB output has been reduced from 100ma to 20ma which isn't enough to drive this device. I invested £500 on an iPad specifically to be able to review photos with clients at the end of a shoot. The fact that Apple has suddenly and without any warning stopped supporting the camera connection kit is appalling and leaves me with suddenly needing to find a grand or two for a laptop. It's even worse that they are still selling this without informing anyone that it doesn't work anymore. This whole fiasco is a joke and the people involved should be ashamed of themselves.

      So far only 1 star until they can get the camera kit working.

      I'm a apple user for sure but I'm very disappointed about the camera connection kit I bought for my Apple iPad 2 for my DJ controller. I did my research and kn I'm a apple user for sure but I'm very disappointed about the camera connection kit I bought for my Apple iPad 2 for my DJ controller. I did my research and knew that I'd need a powered USB hub so I got a certified data 4 port hub 3.0 to help power my controller. Once I hooked everything up I kept getting messages stating that my USB 2.0 requires too much power. Well that doesn't make sense cause that's why I got the hub to help power my midi device. If anyone could help out with some advice about what I'm doing wrong or what I'm missing that would be great. I've read lots reviews saying that after version 9.0 the camera kit has gone kaput. If that's so I'm very disappointed and a big turn off from Apple products. I would've been better off spending my money on a sure deal!!!!

      Disappointed...

      I got this mainly for video. Connecting, it was fine for photos, so no issues there, but the video end of things has been very frustrating. I tried .mov files, I got this mainly for video. Connecting, it was fine for photos, so no issues there, but the video end of things has been very frustrating. I tried .mov files, and nothing came up, I just could not see anything in the import bit, and then tried MP4 and still nothing came up. I'd previously tried other formats but none of them worked. So what's the solution then? I have videos on various formats but none of them get recognised when I use the kit. I can't recommend it because it hasn't worked for me although other people don't seem to have the same problem.

      I was using my said kit as USB MIDI connectivity and working fine when my iPad is still on iOS7. As having new synth apps to use, I have no choice but to upgra I was using my said kit as USB MIDI connectivity and working fine when my iPad is still on iOS7. As having new synth apps to use, I have no choice but to upgrade my iPad to iOS9 for apps compatibility. Unfortunately, the kit is no longer usable with a message prompted "This accessories is no longer supported....." everytime I try to plug it into my iPad. Absolutely disappointed with the way Apple has treated this.
