I have never had an apple product with this terrible of quality. For $50 should definitely last longer especially not used much and always put up when not in use. Would not recommend wasting your money.

Poor Video Quality and No Audio Out of Headphone Jack

The result is the vid Instead of outputting native HDMI, this little device seems to take the output from the phone, compress it, and pass along an HDMI signal. The result is the video quality is far below good HD quality. Expect all kinds of artifacts and other issues including lower than expected HD resolution. This is not a device that can replace a good streaming alternative, which is too bad considering Apple's devices are more than powerful enough for that purpose. For those of us hoping to use our phones or iPads to connect in business settings to display content, be aware that audio is only transmitted through the lightening port when this is plugged in, which gives no audio out through the headphone jack. That means that if you are plugging this into a projector's HDMI input, you are likely going to lose any sound that goes along with your presentation (or anything else) as most quality projectors do not have speakers. This is a big oversight in my opinion as lots of devices keep the analog audio out of a headphone jack or the like live while also transmitting sound over HDMI. Similarly, sound is not also sent via bluetooth when this is plugged in, so that's not an alternative either. I have both the bluetooth and headphone jack options open on my laptop, which has an HDMI out. So much for replacing a good old laptop.

No surprise since every apple product I have owned has had issues after a short period of time. Do yourself a favor and just switch to android products. The converter is half the price an actually works. I will personally never buy, or use apple products again. Thank God my contract on this phone is almost over, I will be switching back immediately.

What the heck are you all doing?

I can't understand what all the whining is about. I've had one of these since Christmas and never had a problem with it in 6 months. If you have wifi I can't im I can't understand what all the whining is about. I've had one of these since Christmas and never had a problem with it in 6 months. If you have wifi I can't imagine you needing this adapter -- just get a device like the Fire TV stick or Roku or whatever so you can watch all the Netflix/Hulu you want. But for those of us who are out of wifi range or just don't even have traditional internet (like houses in the boonies that only satellite internet can reach) yet DO have unlimited cell phone data, you can't go wrong with this. Like someone else said, there's some simple tricks for making it work. A) Don't be a slob. Don't bend or twist the connector, don't leave it laying around in dusty or dirty places, don't shove it in your pocket when you go to a friend's house. Blow out your (probably filthy) lightning slot before inserting the adapter. Maybe $50 isn't a lot to other folks but I've been treating my adapter like it's worth a lot, and it's rewarded me in turn. B) Seriously, just start the freaking video on your phone before you plug the adapter into it. You'll miss what, .5 seconds that you can rewind? Video connection has always been guaranteed for me when I do this. I watch all the major streaming apps with no problem.
