This won't work for the Touch Bar MacBook Pro. You need USB-C to HDMI.

Mini DisplayPort uses the same connector as Thunderbolt. You can plug it into the Thunderbolt port Mini DisplayPort uses the same connector as Thunderbolt. You can plug it into the Thunderbolt port on the right hand side of your MacBook Air which can be used as a mini DisplayPort as well.
