Dashboard: Information available at your command.
For every photographer whos ever delighted in working with a great assistant manipulating a light meter or fine-tuning a focus ring, theres a wonderful world of widgets in Mac OS X Tiger.
Collectively, its called Dashboard. Individually, each widget gives you instant access to an at-a-glance, spur-of-the-moment tool without interrupting your workflow for a moment. Then Dashboard disappears just as easily, so you can get back to what you were doing.
Wisdom at Your Fingertips
Got an outdoor shoot in Sydney tomorrow? Use Dashboard to check the weather report. Scaling an image in Photoshop? Use Dashboards calculator to figure out how many pixels to shave. Have a bright idea for a business promotion? Capture it in Dashboards to-do list before it flies from your mind. Need to talk to that creative director in Tokyo? Consult Dashboards world clock before you wake him from a good nights sleep.
Tiger comes with a number of useful widgets, including a language translator, weather forecasts, phone book, iTunes controller, Google search, dictionary, address book, calendar, sticky notes, unit converter and flight tracker. And new downloadable widgets pulling information from the web or functions from your favourite applications are being created on an almost daily basis.
Take Control
Of course, widgets can be easily configured to your preferences, and your entire widget collection can be managed with a few swift clicks.
Tip
As your collection of Widgets grows, you may want to manage them. You can add, remove, activate, and deactivate widgets in one handy location. Dashboard in Mac OS X v10.4.2 or greater has a Manage Widgets button at the lower left of the Dashboard screen, giving you quick access to the Widgets Manager.
