Mail: Take control of your correspondence.

Mail Icon

For those whose first love is photography, email can be a limited means of expression. When photographs are included in messages, they often arrive as attachments that need to be downloaded and launched in a separate image-viewing application.

Besides being a smart-searching, quick-sorting, junk-mail-filtering, hyper-efficent email program, Mail is exceedingly picture-friendly. Which means you instantly see emailed photos as pictures, not as file icons. And you see them in vivid detail, with accurate colours, because Mail relies on Tiger’s native power to display all sorts of image formats — PDF, TIF, GIF, JPG, even RAW files.

Close-Ups

With one click, Mail resizes your outgoing photos to small, medium, large, or actual size, and tells you how large an email will be based on the photo size you select. So you easily keep your pictures within the file-size limits of various email systems — and ensure that important images get through to clients and colleagues.

Slideshows

Mail also lets you view multiple photos attached to an email as a slideshow, complete with effects. Choose photos from a virtual index sheet, then browse through images at full-screen resolution.

Built for Your Business

When you’re wearing your business hat, you’ll also appreciate Mail’s intelligent searching and sorting powers. Search for a job number, a project name, a date range, any criteria you choose. With a click, Mail saves the results as a Smart Mailbox that provides a window into just those messages that match your criteria. Smart Mailboxes are smart enough to keep themselves constantly updated, automatically. So you always have an instant view of messages related to hot projects.

For photographers who’ve always found email to be a chore, using Mail can be a revelation — at last, a powerful email system that sends and receives photos just as easily as you take them.

Tip

Ever drop an image onto an email only to realise it was too big to send? Mail in Mac OS X gives you the ability to scale images on the fly. Choose the size you prefer from the pop-up menu on the lower right corner of your window and Mail will take care of all the scaling for you - without having to open another application and save extraneous versions of the image.
