      Needs work

The screenshots in the D-Link datasheet are completely misleading. The fisheye effect is extremely pronounced. Items 5 feet away on the sides are unrecognizable. And if the camera is at anything but eye level you waste a lot of viewing area on ceilings or floors. It would be nice to have a manual adjustment for the lens to let you zoom in and out. And it would be nice to be able to tilt the base manually. I don't expect a full PTZ camera but some manual adjustments would be helpful. However, the biggest problem is that HomeKit does not support multiple steps, or conditions, in automations. I want to have recording and motion detection enabled only when I am away from home. The lack of this most basic piece of functionality make this camera almost unusable. It will be constantly recording and triggering the motion detector. Ridiculous. I hate to be ragging on HomeKit and D-Link. I love Apple stuff and applaud D-Link for shipping the first HomeKit camera. But, as it is, I will not be buying another HomeKit accessory or camera until they add features that make it somewhat comparable to what else is already on the market.

I hope improvements and new features are added (i.e., Home-Away mode, viewable thumbnails from SD saves). It is kind of hard going from a Canary to the Omna as Canary had everything I wanted except for a monthly subscription and no HomeKit support. Here's to hoping the Omna gets some additional features, and soon!

I just received my D-Link Omna today (ordered yesterday), set it up and finished playing with it and the Home app in iOS. 1) The camera is small. The dimensions are listed but I didn't look at them and was blown away when I opened the box. Love it. 2) I wish it were black instead of silver. 3) It has a microSD slot with support for up to 128GB cards. Most competing products want a cloud based implementation. I wanted the opposite: built-in storage first and cloud, if available at all ( I don't care for it), second. 3) Image quality is great. Haven't tested at night yet. 4) Motion detection comes set at 90% by default in the app and so far I found that it's slightly delayed even when set to 99% (the max) in the app. 5) The firmware is Rev. 1.0. And the App is also just brand new. There is NO way to save a recorded video onto the phone. Individual clips can be deleted but there is NO to save or share them (yet?) 6) Integration with the Home app is seamless and works well. I want to see what D-Link does with updating the firmware and the App and I will be buying one of these for each room. Highly recommended because it's a great product off to a great start.

Great image quality and I'm able Have had the D-Link Oman for about 6 months, connected with the Omna app with no issues, set up in Homekit app with no issues. Great image quality and I'm able to access remotely via cellular connection and wi-fi. Over all very happy with its performance. One thing that is very shocking is that it physically gets very hot to the touch. Not burn your skin hot, but hotter than I would expect. I have some concern of it failing prematurely due to this heat issue. Any comments from D-link or Apple?

Not good enough yet with so much potential

Video can be recorded to an SD card which is accessible on your iPhone even when you're away provided you have an AppleTV (4th Gen). 2 full days of HD video has taken up 1% of my 128GB microSD card which cost less than £40. For security, your video is not sent to anyone's servers too. The night vision is epic with 2 powerful IR LEDs. It easily lights up the whole room in pitch black darkness. Look out for objects in the foreground that may reflect the IR light causing the image to go dark. A long power lead gives flexibility with positioning There are multiple options for HomeKit automation. Motion sensing offers good control with a 9 segment choice of where to detect movement within the camera's field of view. A hidden gem comes if you use a 3rd party app like 'Eve' (from Elgato) as you can set sound (noise) thresholds to trigger a HomeKit scene too. The bad: No wall mount available to accurately position the camera from high in the room looking down. Recording to SD results in hundreds of 20 second clips throughout the day. Very hard to navigate your footage. When motion is sensed, lighting scenes can be triggered, but setting omna to turn them off when motion is no longer sensed is awful. Lights turn on for about 2 seconds and turn off and then it won't respond until the 'retrigger' timer has elapsed (say for 30 seconds). This bug REALLY needs addressing to make it a usable HomeKit motion sensor. I'd like to see the ability to view a time lapse of the day and for the video to be stitched together into larger time chunks than 20 seconds. It'd be great if you could skim through time lapse footage and where you stop you can play your footage and skip forward and back through all the footage. I hate that the video is recorded as 20 second clips. I won't be returning mine in the hope the software improves.

But there is no integration with HomeKit… and there never will be because Google has started up their own "smart home" operation. I bought the OMNA Cam to show that there IS a market for a camera that's HomeKit compatible. The OMNA Cam is limited… the image quality is marginal, there is no zoom capability, video storage is limited to an SD card in the camera body, motion sensing is nice but minimal, HomeKit integration is easy and excellent. There is a LOT of room for improvement, much like the very first "DropCam". But that is to be expected… D-Link needs encouragement to improve their product. Buying the camera can provide that, I hope…
