My first impression of the LG was pretty positive.

For someone who works with video all the time or with photos, editing, it's kind of nice to have.

Colors are popping, saturation is the number one word that comes to mind.

      It just works....not!

This is definitely as good as I have a MBP 15" late 2016 and thought that 2 of these monitors would make a perfect setup. The monitor has a great resolution. This is definitely as good as I expected it to be. Here comes the 'but' Well .... it just doesn't work. Even after the latest macOS upgrade my MBP still crashes every time it tries to come back from sleep mode. In addition to that the external USB keyboard attached to one of the monitors is not recognized after power is cut of and turned on again. Solution here: unplugging the USB cable from the back of the monitor. Also the sound output doesn't stay on the selected monitor but always switches back to the other one. Overall a poor experience. Very sad.....

When selecting the monitor as sound output and adjusting the sound using an external keyboard or the touch bar, the sound level is way too loud. Already at the second "bar" the volume is very high. I also use a USB headphone DAC/amp and it does not have the same problem. I contacted LG about this and only got boilerplate responses. Let's hope Apple takes notice.

The screen shows up in a massive box, and once it's unpacked - it's obvious why. The 5K display is fully assembled, i.e. on its stand, out of the box. Yep, just take it out and plug it in. 1.) There's an Energy Star sticker stuck to the screen itself, which is bewildering. Removing it without making any smudges is all kinds of fun. 2.) Volume leveling is currently broken in OS X as of 10.12.3. The level set to one volume bar is too quiet, and set to two volume bars is too loud. Anything above that is preposterous. What on earth? SHIFT+OPTION+VOL. Adjustment = micro changes of the volume to at least temporarily alleviate the issue (you'll end up with the volume midway between one bar and two bars - good grief). Thank goodness for this micro adjustment, because how this issue made it past QC boggles my mind 3.) Brightness adjustment is laggy in response when you press the brightness keys on the keyboard. It does work, though, but lagged. 4.) Shutting down the system sometimes results in a giant cursor stuck on the screen, with a small cursor you can move around, but the system never shuts down. You then have to hold the power button down to shut off completely. 3.75 out of 5. 5.) Since this is an LG product and not an Apple one, a standard 1-year warranty applies, with no ability to get AppleCare, which is a real downer. Overall, this is a lovely screen. You forget it's not aesthetically stunning like Apple's own displays - while using it, but there's certain to be a disconnect here in terms of just who is responsible for making sure the functionality is fully baked. Currently, it's not quite ready for primetime.

I've been mindful of the problems reported in the reviews here. To date, I haven't experienced or noticed any of them. Perhaps LG has been paying attention and making improvements accordingly? For what it's worth, my experiences have been nothing less than those advertised by Apple/LG. The display has lived up to my needs and expectations. No regrets with this expensive purchase.

Still problem after problem, from the USB hub (not recognizing devices) from the black screens to kernal panics. This display is plagued with problems, and cant believe Apple endorses this one. I went back to my old Apple trusted Thunderbolt display and love it, very reliable and gets the job done, absolutely perfect quality and Apple reliability. In a business, we need something reliable.
