Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter (for MacBook Pro with Retina display)

  • Overview

The 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone should trip over it, the cord disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Pro stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.

Not sure if this is the right power adapter for your Mac?

Knowing which specific Mac model you have is important. If you are running OS X Lion (10.7) or later go to the “” menu at the top left of your screen, choose “About this Mac” then click the “More Info...” button. Your Mac model and generation will be displayed.

If you are running an earlier version of OS X, you can enter your serial number here to find out which model you have.

      Magnet not Strong Enough

I have had all versions of MagSafe. The Original T, The L, and now MagSafe 2 with my MBP Retina display. I am a fan of the T design but the magnet holding it I have had all versions of MagSafe. The Original T, The L, and now MagSafe 2 with my MBP Retina display. I am a fan of the T design but the magnet holding it in is way to weak. I don't know if it is because its smaller profile, but I can barely touch my laptop without the thing falling out. It is becoming extremely annoying to the point where I might need to walk around with a brand new MBP with its power cord duct taped to it! I believe the magnets are in the systems itself but please Apple come out with a revised adapter with a second set of neodymium magnets in the charging tip to counter act the problem and grab the machine tighter. I'd rather it be bulkier and work properly. I understand the point that is supposed to break away, but not by a feather landing on it! We miss Steve Jobs. I hope this isn't the type of product glitches we will have to get accustomed to now. Apple is supposed to be Apple, This isn't Apple at all.

The tiny magnet I used in nursery school to gather iron filings in the sandbox was stronger. And it unseats so easily that time and time again when I think it's charging it's not. Bad, bad, bad. For shame. And it is so easy to fix.

Frustrating and Irritating to Needlessly Fiddle with the Cord

This is my second MacBook Pro. I have never had an issue with my first Mac and had a standard to compare my new purchase against. If I could give this product This is my second MacBook Pro. I have never had an issue with my first Mac and had a standard to compare my new purchase against. If I could give this product 0, I would. In an ideal situation, I would work on my laptop at a desk. But, this is not the case. In reality, I put my Mac on the bed, take it to bed and work or set it on my lap while watching TV. It is one thing for the adapter to disconnect once but, it is constant through its use. The minutest touch will cause a disconnection. It is guaranteed to disconnect if my power source is to the right of the computer connection and I need to trail the cord in front, under or behind the Mac. Or, the biggie, in the groove of working for hours thinking you are plugged in to find the power cord has been disconnected. It is irritating, annoying and frustrating. For what I paid, I would expect the power adapter to stay connected. It is obvious the Mac and power adapter was not subjected to the conditions of daily normal use. Apple Fail!
