Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter (for MacBook Pro with Retina display)

  • Overview

The 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone trips over it, the lead disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Pro stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.

I am not a heavy user but the charger had now 'frayed' at the mag 2 connector showing the metal grading around the cable itself. It is a poorly designed and poorly constructed piece of equipment which lets down the whole product. I just wonder what Apple were thinking of.......

Today the cable coming out of the main unit melted exposing the internal wires. In the process it melted a hole in the carpet it was sitting on. Overheating seems to be a recurrent problem with this design. Tomorrow I will see what the Mac Store has to say about this. I assume that they will replace the product for free.

So much fake chargers in the world?

I just charged my Late 2013 15 inch MacBook Pro and checked the power adapter from my 85W MagSafe 2 charger. It was really hot and I thought: this is not good, I just charged my Late 2013 15 inch MacBook Pro and checked the power adapter from my 85W MagSafe 2 charger. It was really hot and I thought: this is not good, what is going on with my charger... I went searching on the web and found out there are a lot of the same issues with the charger. The reviews on the Apple Store site are really bad, and people are having the same issue, the charger get really hot. While searching the web you will find a lot of fake Apple MagSafe chargers and I had to find out if I had one too. I checked it with a YouTube video and found out my MagSafe Charger is fake too. My question is: how is it possible that there are so much stores online and offline that sell fake MagSafe chargers for nearly the same price as the real ones? After a few minutes of research on the web, I have discovered this problem is a daily driver for a lot of MacBook users... I have to say it is really dangerous to charge your Mac like this (if you have a fake charger). I also think that more than a half of these reviews is about the fake chargers (the dangerous ones). Thats not good because I believe the real chargers are good and do not deserve bad reviews. If you need a MacBook charger, buy them on Apple's site or in an Apple Store because the chance you have a fake charger is real high if you buy them somewhere else. And Apple please do something with this problem, I think I speak for a lot of people right now...

      The worst product from apple

I change it basically every year!!!! I bought my macbook pro in 2016 and changed this magsafe 3 times for the same reason!!! It stops working while connected I change it basically every year!!!! I bought my macbook pro in 2016 and changed this magsafe 3 times for the same reason!!! It stops working while connected to the laptop, it just stops... the light turns off and that’s it. The same defection every time. Power supply unit is fine and apple care doesn’t have any clue every time but to buy a new one!!!! Which is really really really over priced for a nondurable product.
