Apple Trade In

Turn the device you have into the one you want.

Trade in your eligible device and you could get credit towards your next purchase, or an Apple Store Gift Card you can use at any time.1 If your device isn’t eligible for credit, we’ll recycle it for free. No matter the model or condition, we can turn it into something good for you and good for the planet.

You could get credit towards a purchase today.

Trade in an eligible device when you buy a new product at an Apple Store and we’ll apply the value towards your purchase — or recycle your trade-in device for free.

Select your device to get started.1

Our partner will tell you if it has trade-in value or if it’s ready to recycle.

A better way to part with your favourite device.

You’ll see what it’s worth instantly.

Just answer a few questions about your device. Based on what you tell us, you could receive an Apple Store Gift Card or instant credit at an Apple Store.1 Or you’ll have the option to recycle it for free.

Your data stays safe.

Before you hand off your device, we’ll show you how to safely back up and wipe your data, so you can keep all your information to yourself.2 If it’s an Apple product, it’s even easier. Just use iCloud or Time Machine to move everything in a few steps.

It goes on to help the planet.

You may be done with your device, but chances are it still has more to give. If it’s in good shape, we’ll help it go to a new owner. If not, we’ll send it to our recycling partner, so we can save more precious materials and take less from the earth.

And if it’s an iPhone, it could even go to Daisy3, our disassembly robot that can efficiently recover the resources inside.

Just mail it out or bring it in.

Trading in your device is as easy as buying a new one. We’ll give you a prepaid trade-in kit or shipping label to send it off. Or you can bring it to an Apple Store. If your device is eligible, you could receive instant credit towards the purchase of a new product. And if it’s not, we can send it on to our recyclers.

Please note: computer trade-in is currently only available online.

What is Apple Trade In and how does it work?

Apple Trade In is a device trade-in program offered by Apple. We work with trade-in partners who give you an estimated value based on the device information you provide. If you accept the quote, our partner will send you shipping materials (at no cost to you), and you can send in your device.

Our partner will inspect your device, and if it is in the condition stated, you’ll receive an Apple Store Gift Card for the quoted amount. If the device is not in the stated condition, our partner will send you a new quote. You can either accept the new quote or have your device sent back (at no cost to you).

Does Apple offer recycling?

Yes. If your device has no trade-in value, Apple Trade In lets you recycle any Apple device, and devices from Apple-owned brands, at any Apple Store and online. We’ll make sure it’s recycled responsibly or given a chance to be used again. You can bring your batteries and old Apple products to any Apple Store, and we’ll recycle them responsibly, free of charge. We accept any small product or battery without purchase of a new product or battery.

If you know your product has no value or you have many units to recycle, you can bypass the trade-in evaluation and go directly to recycling. Select the “Other Devices Recycle” to initiate your request for recycling. In Australia only the recycling third party accepts all brands for recycling. Check the third party’s site for details.

What happens to my device once I trade it in or recycle it?

When we receive your device, our partners will thoroughly inspect it. If the device is in good working condition, it can be refurbished so it can go on to a new owner. If it’s not in working order, it will be recycled in an environmentally responsible way through our recycling partner.

How long does the entire process take?

The entire trade-in process takes about two to three weeks. But the faster you send in your device, the sooner your trade-in will be inspected and processed.

How do I follow the status of my trade-in?

You can follow the status of your trade-in by using our trade-in partner’s status portal.

Will I receive the quoted value?

Our trade-in partner will inspect your device. If it’s in the condition described, you will receive the quoted value in the form of an Apple Store Gift Card. If it’s not in the condition described, a new quote will be sent to you. You will have the option to either accept this quote and receive an Apple Store Gift Card, or reject it and have your device sent back to you for free.
