  • Overview

The Beddit 3 Sleep Monitor automatically tracks your sleep and works with the Beddit app on your iPhone or iPad to help you achieve better sleep. Unlike activity trackers, Beddit is completely ambient so there’s no need to wear or charge it. The thin, flexible and soft sensor is unnoticeable when placed under the sheet on top of the mattress. It senses and automatically begins tracking when you lie down on the bed — collecting and analysing sleep-related data such as sleep time and efficiency, heart rate, respiration, temperature, movement, snoring, room temperature and room humidity.

    Understand your sleep patterns better

The Beddit app delivers personalised insights and customisable sleep coaching to help you improve your sleep. In addition, the Beddit Smart Alarm provides the most accurate method of detecting the optimal time to awaken you from sleep.

    How it works

Beddit technology is based upon a scientific principle known as ballistocardiography (BCG), an unobtrusive, non-invasive technique for measuring the mechanical activity of the heart, lungs and other body functions. Each time the heart beats, the acceleration of blood through the circulatory system generates a mechanical impulse that can be measured and analysed. Throughout the night, Beddit tracks each individual heartbeat and respiration cycle. Beddit’s advanced analysis and machine-learning algorithms adapt differently to each body type and provide detailed sleep data.

    Highlights

Automatically tracks sleep as well as heart rate, average resting heart rate, respiration, movement and snoring

Thin, flexible, soft sensor is undetectable when placed under the sheet on top of the mattress

No need to wear anything like activity trackers, sensors or other gadgets

Beddit Sleep Score combines sleep quality and sleep quantity data into one easy-to-understand number

    Tracks room temperature and humidity

Works on any bed, any size mattress, and with one or two people in the bed (requires two sensors for tracking two people)

The sensor is removable for travel

Works with Apple Watch to deliver Sleep Score every morning, and track a nap if the Sleep Score was too low

Delivers sleep data to Apple Health app

      It works!

I use this in conjunction with a CPAP and have found it to be quite accurate. My sleep quality always registers higher when I use my CPAP vs when I don't. Also, not having one more thing to wear while I'm asleep is a huge bonus.

      Big improvement over Beddit 2

I liked the app, and it was great not having to wear anything while sleeping. However, the adhesive on the beddit 2’s sensor eventually started losing its tackiness. When I saw that the Beddit 3 no longer used adhesive with its sensor, it was an instant buy for me. I have been using it for a month now and love it.

It was simple to set up, jut put it on your mattress at chest height and plug it in, connect with your Beddit app and off you go. The detail of information is very good, but it is also easy to check things at a glance. It shows you your different levels of sleep, your heart rate, breathing rate, temperature and humidity of the room. And it can detect snoring with the app. The automatic sleep detection is very useful, you don't have to remember anything when you go to bed. Just hop in and fall to sleep.

It recorded me out of bed far longer than I actually was. I tried moving the sensor strip quite a few times without any effect. Then it got worse. It started to record my heart beat erratically even while it was recording my sleep state. Some nights I had no heart beat at all and others it beat for only a few minutes. The sleep state recording then became erratic showing a tiny amount of sleep, just above the bottom line, then showing such deep sleep that it was off the charts by at least double the max it could display. I tried to find a number to call but couldn't and just stopped using it. Today, about a month later I called Apple chat and got Beddit's support email address. (There was no one to talk to.) I had already had hassles with another company's support and was feeling bad, so figured I couldn't feel worse by adding another consumer support call. Now I am waiting for a reply. It did work for a while and I am willing to try again if they replace/fix it. If they do, I will modify this review. BTW I believe Apple owns Beddit.

The app where the tracked data can be analysed looks polished and is easy to understand and use, but the amount of data is a bit of let down: Why track every heartbeat during your sleep and then only give an average? Why track every breath during your sleep and then only give a minute average? If you can track breaths, you should be able to track breathing stops as well, which would make the beddit invaluable for apnea diagnosis. Why track your snoring and show it as little meaningless red dots? Where's the loudness indicator? I returned the Beddit because it didn't notice I was out of bed and couldn't notice if I was awake or not. It also had very infrequent heartbeat trackings. This meant I couldn't take any measuring seriously. From the reviews I saw, it's a bit of a hit or miss whether it will work for you or not.

What exactly is this supposed to do?!?!

"try getting a good night's sleep to feel refreshed" sort of stuff... Also, if you have two beds ( a vacation home for example) you have to re-pair with your phone each time (no auto discover) which is annoying.
