  • Overview

The Smart Keyboard Folio for the 11-inch iPad Pro is a full-size keyboard when you need it to be, provides elegant front and back protection when you don’t, and allows for convenient viewing angles. And with no charging or pairing required, just attach the keyboard and start typing.

      Disappointed

Whilst I haven't used a keyboard much with previous iPads, I am looking to step up my digital note taking game so the idea of having a keyboard always there appealed. Besides I needed a case anyway. So on the positive side, the case attaches to the iPad beautifully. The magnets are strong and it wraps around the whole thing whilst still allowing the pencil to remain attached. The keys are nice and it is nice to type on. Like many Apple products, "It Just Works" But it also adds a lot of weight and bulk to the beautifully thin and light iPad making it feel much more like a Surface Pro when carried around the office. With this case attached, the whole thin and light design is lost and it becomes drab, thick and heavy. Even the material used feels sub par. On top of this, when you fold the case back around on itself to use in tablet mode, the keyboard is left exposed so your hand is constantly pressing keys etc. Sure they aren't enabled in this mode but it's still uncomfortable and again, you are left with something that is thick and heavy and uncomfortable in your hand. Yes you could remove the case if you want to use it as just a tablet but that just isn't the way you expect to have to deal with Apple products. On top of all of this, you are paying out a lot of money for this case. So if you really use your iPad with a keyboard for many hours a day, writing stuff, this may be for you. The extra weight and bulk may be worth it but if you just like the idea of having the keyboard just in case, you may be disappointed like I was. So I am now going down the route of the Apple Folio Case (sans keyboard) which is much thinner and lighter (but still made out of the same cheap feeling plastic) and chucking my Microsoft Folding Bluetooth Keyboard into my bag for the occasions when I do have lots to type. YMMV but for me, for the price, I feel Apple didn't deliver something that matched the beauty of the iPad itself.

Not great for an awesome iPad

You would have thought the new keyboard would be a step up from the previous too. On the key front it pretty much is. Same layout, same texture, same feel. The only different is the back covers the back of the iPad with magnets and there are two different positions to tile the iPad (I still have no idea how they worked out that these were the two ideal positions because they don't work for me). That's not all where there is changes from this year's new Smart Keyboard compared to last years. Last year's model if you wanted to fold away the keyboard and use the iPad you could very easily, fold it away and hold the iPad comfortably in your hands. This year's model folds around so the keyboard faces out. That's right, if you fold away the keyboard they face downwards so holding the iPad feels very uncomfortable. It feels weird holding the iPad and feeling the keyboard on the otherwise. It makes freak out that I'm gonna hit keys and it will start typing as I'm using the iPad. Very strange design. Another oddity is the overall design of the folio. Last year's case had the folds so the over looked nice with the grooves. It's something that you come to expect as an iPad user and using Apple covers. The new folio is flat at the front, of course no folding parts for the keyboard but when you have something as beautifully designed as the new iPad Pro, something that reflects that in its accessories isn't asking the work. I'd even be happy with a subtle Apple indent at the front. Overall the keyboard is great, can't fault it but compared to last year's folio keyboard it's not great. The design features really let it down and I'm actually looking at third party keyboard and folio cases to replace this one which is a shame to say.

I’d have given it top score, if there was a leather option. Ive tried a few case keyboard contraptions on my various iPads over the years, this is the best keyboard, a little clacky, but its so slim. My only concern is, will it last a year or two. Oh one other thing, I think ill use this as my main case, cos its just such a good fit, and slim

      LOVE this case!

LOVE IT! Never bought a Smart Keyboard for iPad before and very glad I bought this one. So stable to use and much more fluid to type on than the on-screen key LOVE IT! Never bought a Smart Keyboard for iPad before and very glad I bought this one. So stable to use and much more fluid to type on than the on-screen keyboard. PLUS - So easy to swap for the the Smart Folio case (Apple's other 11" iPad Pro case without the keyboard) when I want to just read or watch films.
