Whether you’re buying or upgrading at the Apple Store, here’s what you’ll need to bring.

Your carrier information.

If you currently have a wireless account, be sure to bring along your password and any other relevant account information.

Your personal information and credit card.

You will be asked to provide your Social Security number and date of birth for a credit check. You will also need a valid U.S. credit card. Debit cards and prepaid cards are not accepted.

Two forms of identification.

You’ll need valid primary and secondary forms of ID, and the first and last names on both must match.

Your current mobile phone.

If you’re enrolling in the iPhone Upgrade Program for the first time, remember to back up your data to your computer or iCloud, and take note of your Apple ID. If you're upgrading, you’ll need to bring your current iPhone with you to trade in during your appointment. If it’s not in good condition, you may need to pay an incident fee to have it repaired.

What is the iPhone Upgrade Program?

The iPhone Upgrade Program is the easiest way to get a new iPhone every year, and the security and protection of AppleCare+. You can purchase iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus with the iPhone Upgrade Program online or at an Apple Store. You can’t enroll in the program by calling Apple.

Can I buy more than one iPhone and additional accessories with the iPhone Upgrade Program?

With the iPhone Upgrade Program, you are limited to one iPhone purchase per online transaction, and you can’t add accessories to your online order. You can purchase additional devices and accessories in separate transactions or at an Apple Store.

What do my monthly payments cover?

Your monthly payments spread the full cost of iPhone and AppleCare+ over 24 months. Your first monthly payment also includes any applicable sales tax on the full price of the iPhone and any shipping costs.

When I buy with the iPhone Upgrade Program, is my iPhone “unlocked”?

Yes. You can select a new wireless carrier or stick with the one you have. We’ll activate your iPhone on your choice of AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon. Once your new iPhone is activated, it remains unlocked.

Are there differences between an iPhone for AT&T or T-Mobile and an iPhone for Sprint or Verizon Wireless?

iPhone offers the same innovative features regardless of the wireless carrier you choose. If you choose AT&T or T-Mobile as your wireless carrier, your iPhone will use 3G cellular technology for voice services and either 3G or 4G LTE cellular technology for data services. iPhone can roam internationally on many GSM carriers around the world. If you buy iPhone with AT&T or T-Mobile, it will not work on Sprint or Verizon Wireless.

If you choose Sprint or Verizon Wireless as your wireless carrier, your iPhone will use CDMA cellular technology for voice and data services. If you buy an unlocked iPhone with Verizon or Sprint, it will work on AT&T or T-Mobile. An iPhone activated on Sprint or Verizon Wireless also has the ability to roam internationally on GSM networks. I have an existing carrier contract or installment plan. Can I purchase with the iPhone Upgrade Program?

You can purchase with the iPhone Upgrade Program even if you have an existing contract or an installment plan balance. However, you are still responsible for honoring any existing commitments with your carrier. Only corporate, business, and prepaid service plans are not eligible for the iPhone Upgrade Program.

Can I keep my current service plan if I choose the iPhone Upgrade Program?

Yes, in most cases. Your wireless carrier may charge a fee for activating your phone on its network. If your current phone does not have a data plan, you will need to change to a plan that does. Corporate, business, and prepaid service plans are not eligible. If you have any questions, you can speak to a Specialist at the Apple Store or .

I’m buying an iPhone as a gift. Can I activate the iPhone at a later date?

Yes. When you buy iPhone on apple.com with the iPhone Upgrade Program, you can activate it later.

Can I trade in my current device?

Yes. If you sign up for the iPhone Upgrade Program in an Apple Store, the trade-in credit will be applied to your credit card. If you sign up online, you will receive a gift card after a short time.3

I’m already enrolled in the iPhone Upgrade Program. How do I upgrade my current iPhone?

You can upgrade at an Apple Store anytime after six months, as long as you’ve made the equivalent of at least 12 payments. You can also check your upgrade eligibility now.

Where can I upgrade my iPhone?

You can upgrade your iPhone at any U.S. Apple Store.

What do I need to upgrade my iPhone?

To reenroll in the iPhone Upgrade Program, you will need a valid U.S. credit card and your Social Security number for a credit check. You will also need two forms of identification, your wireless account password, and your current iPhone purchased through the iPhone Upgrade Program.

Can someone else upgrade my iPhone on my behalf?

Yes. The person who upgrades your iPhone will be responsible for starting a new iPhone Upgrade Program loan agreement.
