After 12 payments, you can get a new iPhone and start a new iPhone Upgrade Program. No more waiting for your carrier contract to end. Just upgrade your current iPhone to a new one, and your new program begins.

You can choose your carrier.

When you buy iPhone with the iPhone Upgrade Program, you aren’t tied to a single carrier and a multiyear service contract. And you don’t have to pay any carrier early upgrade fees. So you can choose the carrier that’s right for you. Once your new iPhone is activated, it remains unlocked, which means you can use it with any carrier that provides service for iPhone.

Buying at an Apple Store? Here’s what you’ll need to bring.

Your carrier information.

If you currently have a wireless account, be sure to bring along your password and any other relevant account information.

Your personal information and credit card.

You will be asked to provide your Social Security number and date of birth for a credit check. You will also need a valid U.S. credit card. Debit cards and prepaid cards are not accepted.

Two forms of identification.

You’ll need valid primary and secondary IDs, and the first and last names on both must match.

Your current mobile phone.

If you’re upgrading from another iPhone, remember to back up your data to your computer or iCloud. You’ll also want to take note of your Apple ID.

  • The iPhone Upgrade Program gives you the option to get a new iPhone every year and includes AppleCare+.

  • Your monthly payments cover the full cost of iPhone and AppleCare+. Your first monthly payment also includes any applicable sales tax on the full price of the iPhone and any shipping costs.

  • Yes. You can select a new wireless carrier or stick with the one you have. We’ll activate your iPhone on your choice of AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or Verizon. However, your phone remains unlocked, so you can use it with other carriers in the future.

  • Yes, in most cases. Your wireless carrier may charge a fee for activating your phone on its network. If your current phone does not have a data plan, you will need to change to a plan that does. If you have any questions, you can speak to a Specialist at the Apple Store.

  • You can purchase with the iPhone Upgrade Program even if you have an existing contract or an installment plan balance. However, you are still responsible for honoring any existing commitments with your carrier.

  • Corporate, business, and prepaid service plans are not eligible.

  • Yes. When you buy iPhone on apple.com using the iPhone Upgrade Program, you can activate it later.

  • Yes, you can. When you upgrade, your existing program ends and you simply begin a new one.

  • Yes. You can upgrade at an Apple Store anytime after six months, as long as you’ve made the equivalent of at least 12 payments.

  • Yes. If you sign up for the iPhone Upgrade Program in an Apple Store, the trade-in credit will be applied to your credit card. If you sign up online, you will receive a gift card after a short time.4

  • You’re under no obligation to upgrade, and after 24 payments, the phone is yours.
