I used it successfully on a MacBook (2015) with macOS Sierra (10.12), by attaching a USB-C to USB ad I used it successfully on a MacBook (2015) with macOS Sierra (10.12), by attaching a USB-C to USB adapter into which I connected a USB to Ethernet Adapter. Hope that helps.

Yes. However it only supports 10/100Mbps speeds and not gigabit. The thunderbolt to RJ45(ethernet) a Yes. However it only supports 10/100Mbps speeds and not gigabit. The thunderbolt to RJ45(ethernet) adapter isn't supported by the MacBook Air.

A MacBook Air has a built-in Wifi, you do not require an Ethernet Adapter if you have a Wifi Network A MacBook Air has a built-in Wifi, you do not require an Ethernet Adapter if you have a Wifi Network in your home/office... etc. However, if you would like to have a wired connection using an ethernet cable, then you need an ethernet adapter to allow this.
