Overview
This VESA Mount Adapter Kit allows your 24-inch or 27-inch iMac computer, 24-inch or 27-inch LED Cinema Display, or Apple Thunderbolt Display to be used with a variety of alternative mounting solutions, such as wall mounts and zero-footprint articulating arms, based on the VESA flat-panel mounting interface (FPMI).

With a tool in this kit, you can remove the iMac or display stand and attach the VESA Mount Adapter. Then connect any VESA-compliant mounting solution with a 100 mm x 100 mm attachment.

With the VESA Mount Adapter attached, your computer or display complies with the VESA MIS-D, 100, C version specification.

It fits perfectly!

I was a little worried about buying this mount due to the previous review saying that it didn't fit. But, I bought and created a little video showing how it's installed. It does fit just fine, but I can see why it might seem like it doesn't fit. You really need a Torx-capable screwdriver

This adapter kit contains two pieces: a flange that attaches to a stub inside the monitor/iMac, and an adapter plate that attaches to that flange (the adapter p This adapter kit contains two pieces: a flange that attaches to a stub inside the monitor/iMac, and an adapter plate that attaches to that flange (the adapter plate is the only part pictured in the its description). A single Torx fastener driven through the adapter plate is actually responsible for aligning the whole assembly. It carries lots of strain and requires significant torque to install completely. If you try to torque the fastener by hand, you will strip the head. A high-torque screwdriver with Torx head is a requirement.

Unsurprisingly excellent design

I used this to mount a Thunderbolt display to an ergonomic sit to stand arm and it worked great. It should be no surprise to anyone that follows Apple that this I used this to mount a Thunderbolt display to an ergonomic sit to stand arm and it worked great. It should be no surprise to anyone that follows Apple that this is a well designed product. While installing it I was struck at how much thought went into it and how well it was built. The installation was very smooth and painless. If you have trouble getting the holes on the sides of the flange to line up read the instructions, you have to tighten the center bolt on the adapter very tight in order to bring the plate down enough to line up the holes.

CAUTION! CAUTION! 2015 and newer iMac - does not fit

This will not work with the 2015 iMac so do not order. It may be that 2011 and newer are not supported, I only know that 2015 iMac does not work. Apple is very lax in the options for this adapter and they are not clear what products this works with. The description says works with iMacs, but it is only the older iMacs. Apple support only says "sorry" .... no help what so ever. They seem to just smile and say "sorry stupid, you bought ... you deal with it".

Troubles with installation...

I initially bought this because I wanted to mount my 27 inch iMac (2011 model) and my 27 inch benq gaming monitor on a dual mount. However there were two obstic I initially bought this because I wanted to mount my 27 inch iMac (2011 model) and my 27 inch benq gaming monitor on a dual mount. However there were two obsticales. First the mount is insanely difficult to install. It is clearly impossible with the provided hardware. I ended up stripping the included screws and bending the Allen wrenches. I had to go to my local hardware store to pick up a proper t10 torq wrench and some replacement screws. I found it also nessesary to remove the two rubber bumpers to even get it screwed down enough to get the side bolts to line up. Once I finally got the adapter installed, I then realized that the iMac, at around 30lbs was way too heavy for the mount that I bought. You need a seriously expensive mount for something this heavy. This was an oversight on my part. But the installation of this adapter should have been a lot easier than it was ... I ended up putting the original stand back on until I find a better dual screen mount.

No. This adapter kit is intended for iMacs released before the late 2012 redesign.

All model iMacs after the late 2012 redesign required the mount be installed internally and as a par All model iMacs after the late 2012 redesign required the mount be installed internally and as a part of the chassis. As a result, they can be purchased either mounted or on a stand. If purchased already with a stand, you would need to explore third-party solutions.

No - you would have need to purchase the iMac with the VESA mount built in. As of 2012, all iMacs ha No - you would have need to purchase the iMac with the VESA mount built in. As of 2012, all iMacs have to be purchased wither with a stand or with the VESA mount. There is no way to change this after ordering unless you buy a new iMac.
