Apple Announces Second Annual QuickTime Live! Conference

Four-Day Event to Feature Intensive Workshops, Technical Sessions and a Comprehensive Product Showcase

CUPERTINO, California—June 20, 2000—Continuing the incredible success of QuickTime™, Apple® today announced that its second annual QuickTime Live! Conference will be held October 9-12 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The four-day conference will feature keynotes, in-depth technical conference sessions, comprehensive full-day workshops and a product showcase.
“QuickTime and its open source streaming server have been embraced by content providers worldwide as the standard for streaming the highest-quality audio and video over the Internet,” said Philip Schiller, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “QuickTime Live! is the must-attend event to learn about capturing, creating and broadcasting in QuickTime.”
QuickTime is Apple's standards-based technology for streaming audio and video over the Internet. More than 50 million copies of the QuickTime 4 player, which is available as a free download from www.apple.com/quicktime, have been distributed to Macintosh® and Windows users worldwide. Apple hosts QuickTime TV (QTV), a network of over 40 channels of the Internet's best music, news, sports, and entertainment programming and the QuickTime web site which, according to Nielsen//NetRatings, is the number one movie trailer site on the web. The QuickTime Streaming Server, the world's first open source streaming server providing the highest quality streaming video on the Internet, has been embraced by industry leaders such as IBM, Sun, SGI and Akamai.
QuickTime Live! will feature three separate tracks covering the development, production and delivery of QuickTime content and will offer:
  • 48 conference sessions providing professional-level training on QuickTime content development and deployment;
  • nine intensive full-day workshops focusing on popular authoring tools, deployment technologies, QuickTime VR and QuickTime Streaming;
  • a product showcase featuring streaming media authoring tools and distribution solutions from more than 50 companies; and
  • a number of other special events.
Registration for developers and content providers begins today at www.apple.com/quicktimelive. A platinum pass, which includes access to all portions of the conference, is available for US$1,195 per attendee ($1,390 after Sept. 1); conference session passes are US$995; and workshop-only passes are US$395. The product showcase will be open to the public at no cost on Oct. 12.
