Today, Apple’s beloved global hit series “Ted Lasso” won Outstanding Comedy Series at the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community and the issues that affect their lives.

“I want to thank all our writers that felt safe enough, vulnerable enough, strong enough, brave enough to share their stories of them coming out and of their experiences,” said “Ted Lasso” creator, executive producer and star Jason Sudeikis shared from the stage at the GLAAD Media Awards.

“Ted Lasso” stars Sudeikis as the titular character, a small-time college football coach from Kansas hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite having no experience. But what he lacks in knowledge, he makes up for with optimism, underdog determination and biscuits. The widely acclaimed series also stars Hannah Waddingham, Brendan Hunt, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Phil Dunster and Nick Mohammed. In addition to starring, Sudeikis serves as executive producer, alongside Bill Lawrence via his Doozer Productions, in association with Warner Bros. and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Doozer’s Jeff Ingold also serves as an executive producer, with Liza Katzer as co-executive producer. The series was developed by Sudeikis, Lawrence, Hunt and Joe Kelly, and is based on the preexisting format and characters from NBC Sports.

This win marks the latest recognition from the GLAAD Media Awards for Apple TV+, after a win for Outstanding Variety or Talk Show Episode for “The Oprah Conversation” episode featuring Elliot Page in 2022, and special recognition for the “Little America” episode “The Son” in 2021, and follows a string of accolades for “Ted Lasso,” which was this year’s most Emmy-nominated comedy for the third consecutive year with 21 nods in total, including Outstanding Comedy Series and multiple performance nods. In 2022, “Ted Lasso” joined the ranks of comedy legends with its win for Outstanding Comedy Series for its first and second seasons, becoming only the eighth series in the genre in 74 years of Emmy history to do so. The second season of “Ted Lasso” was also the most Emmy-winning comedy for the second year in a row with four total wins, including Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Jason Sudeikis), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Brett Goldstein) and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series (M.J. Delaney).

All three seasons of “Ted Lasso” are now streaming globally on Apple TV+.

In addition to this evening’s honor for “Ted Lasso,” Apple TV+ has been recognized with multiple nominations for the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, which will be unveiled at the New York ceremony on Saturday, May 11, 2024:
