You’re buying directly from Apple, so you aren’t tied to a single carrier and a multi-year service contract. You can choose the carrier and tariff that are right for you. Once your new iPhone is activated, it remains unlocked, which means you can use it with any carrier that provides service for iPhone.

AppleCare+ means you’re covered.

With AppleCare+ included, you get up to two years of hardware repairs, software support, and coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage, each subject to an excess fee of £25 for screen replacement or £79 for any other damage.
AppleCare+ for iPhone X is £199, for iPhone 8 Plus is £149 and for iPhone 8 is £129 when sold separately.3

The iPhone Upgrade Programme is available only at an Apple Store.

Here’s what you’ll need to bring.

Your personal information and bank details.

You will be asked to provide your date of birth, employment details, and UK home address/es from the last three years for a credit check. You will also need your bank account number and sort code to set up a direct debit.

A valid photo ID.

Make sure you bring along your UK driving licence, or passport and your debit card.

Your current mobile phone.

If you’re upgrading from another iPhone, remember to back up your data to your computer or iCloud. You’ll also want to take note of your Apple ID. If you’re upgrading to your first iPhone, one of our Specialists can help you transfer all your data with the Move to iOS app.

Yes. If you sign up for the iPhone Upgrade Programme at an Apple Store, the trade-in credit will be applied to your debit or credit card. You can estimate the value of your smartphone here.

What do my monthly payments cover?

Your monthly payments cover the full cost of iPhone and AppleCare+ minus the £69 upfront payment on the day of purchase.

When I buy with the iPhone Upgrade Programme, is my iPhone “unlocked”?

Yes. The iPhone Upgrade Programme does not include a carrier plan. One of our Specialists can help you choose the right carrier and tariff for you, and help you activate your iPhone. However, your phone remains unlocked, so you can use it with other carriers in the future.

I have an existing carrier contract. Can I purchase iPhone with the iPhone Upgrade Programme?

Yes. You can purchase your iPhone with the iPhone Upgrade Programme even if you have an existing contract with a carrier. However, you are still responsible for honouring any existing commitments with your carrier. One of our Specialists can check your eligibility to leave your current tariff, help you choose a SIM-only tariff that works for you, and activate your iPhone at an Apple Store.

Can I gift to someone the latest iPhone on the iPhone Upgrade Programme?

Yes, you can purchase the latest iPhone on the iPhone Upgrade Programme for someone else. However, the person making the purchase is responsible for the loan, and any communication regarding the programme or the loan will be sent to them.

I’m buying an iPhone as a gift. Can I activate the phone at a later date?

Yes. When you buy iPhone using the iPhone Upgrade Programme, you can activate it later on.

Can I choose a different model, colour or storage capacity when I upgrade?

Yes, you can. When you upgrade, your existing programme ends and you simply begin a new one.

Can I pay off my loan early?

Yes, you can pay off the balance of your loan at any time by contacting Barclays. By paying off the balance of your loan in full you will no longer be eligible to upgrade but you can apply to start a new programme at any time with your new choice of model.

What happens if I don’t want to upgrade my iPhone after 11 monthly payments?

You’re under no obligation to upgrade after 11 monthly payments.

Can I upgrade even if I haven’t made my 11 monthly payments yet?

Yes, you can by making an early upgrade payment equivalent to the loan balance up to 11 monthly payments, when you upgrade at an Apple Store.

Is there another credit check when I upgrade my iPhone?

Yes, as part of enrolling in a new programme for your new iPhone you will be required to have a credit check when you upgrade at an Apple Store.

Do I need to contact Barclays to close my loan before visiting the store?

No, we’ll close the loan for you when you upgrade through the iPhone Upgrade Programme. If you haven’t made 11 monthly payments, we can take the early upgrade payment in store when you pick up your new iPhone.

What happens if I’ve already replaced the iPhone I first enrolled in the iPhone Upgrade Programme?

If you’ve previously replaced your iPhone, please visit checkcoverage.apple.com to see whether your replacement iPhone is covered by AppleCare+. If it’s not, contact Apple Support on 0800 048 0408. They can help you transfer the coverage to your current iPhone before picking up your new device at an Apple Store.

What do I do if my iPhone is damaged?

Your iPhone should be in good working condition at the time of upgrade. If your iPhone has screen damage, we’ll do our best to help you when you visit the store. If your iPhone has any other damage, visit getsupport.apple.com to book an appointment to get it repaired before you upgrade.

Can I change my iPhone Upgrade Programme to a different form of payment?

Yes. Ask a Specialist for more information. If you choose a different form of payment, you will be responsible for paying the remaining balance of your iPhone Upgrade Programme loan.

When I upgrade to a new iPhone with the iPhone Upgrade Programme, what happens to my existing AppleCare+ coverage?

When you complete the iPhone trade-in process, we’ll cancel the associated AppleCare+ coverage. Your new AppleCare+ coverage will be registered to your new iPhone from the day you purchase it.

Can someone else upgrade my iPhone on my behalf?

Yes. The person who upgrades your iPhone will be responsible for starting a new iPhone Upgrade Programme loan agreement.

What happens if I don’t want to upgrade my iPhone after 11 monthly payments?

You’re under no obligation to upgrade after 11 monthly payments.
